Ritescript, a division of Evernote, announced ritePen Pro 3.1 today. The latest edition of ritePen 3.1 incorporates a number of improvements suggested by the GottaBeMobile community.
The application improves tablet users’ inking experience by turning the entire display into a canvas. It has a ton of great tools that improve recognition and put your note-taking into overdrive.
Leonid Kitainik of Evernote said his team was extremely grateful for the feedback GBM readers provided in the forums. He sent the following message to GottaBeMobile:
Key new features in ritePen Pro and improvements in ritePen 3.1 have been influenced by GBM and its forum discussions on ritePen 3.0; we even had a special ““GBM priority list†for implementation. In a nutshell, ritePen Pro has three new features compared with the standard version:
(i) Context aware recognition for forms and vertical apps, but also for mass market users — example is address field in a browser which can now be assigned a ““web recognition profile†for better accuracy. To support this feature, we also ship a set of 50+ ““lexicons†â€” special dictionaries and data templates for most common data types, and allow multiple user-generated (or imported) dictionaries.
(ii) Full-screen markup, integrated with Evernote — annotated snapshots can be automatically sent to Evernote’s notebooks, which opens a plenty of opportunities for cross-platform availability, publishing, and sharing of markups. While markup feature is very basic in version 3.1 Pro, we are planning to add much more in the future releases.
(iii) Advanced ink commands (pen macros) which can now emulate any keyboard activity and add more commands to control ritePen.
Other feature highlights of ritePen Pro 3.1 include:
• Pre-built lexicons: To support context aware recognition, ritePen Pro comes with over 50 pre-built ““lexicons†â€” special dictionaries and data templates for highly accurate recognition of common data types including date, phone, personal and geographical names, web addresses, Social Security Number, Driver License, etc. Multiple user dictionaries, such as customer lists, product codes, etc. can be added to standard lexicons to further enhance recognition.
• Portuguese Handwriting Recognition: Support for Portuguese language has been added; ritePen now recognizes unrestricted handwriting in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish languages.
• Other enhancements include advanced punctuation panel, multiple letter corrections in WordMenu, ““pen only†input mode, improvements in user interface, and many more.
The company has some video demos and tutorials in the works here. A free 30-day trial of ritePen Pro 3.1 is available immediately at ritescript.com. A full license is $49.95. Evernote users are eligible for a 40% discount.
