Samsung Galaxy S6 Release, Price, Specs & Comparison

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is the most anticipated smartphone of early 2015 with two options for buyers. The Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge share a lot of features and specs, but the Galaxy S6 Edge delivers two curved edges to set it apart from the standard Galaxy S6.

With the successful Galaxy Note 4 arrival last year it is time for Samsung to focus on the Galaxy S6 release date and launch events in the U.S. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will compete with the HTC One M9 in the U.S. this spring.

Samsung finally ditched the plastic design for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, but this move also dropped the option to add more storage with a Micro SD card and to replace the battery on the go. Unlike the Galaxy S5, the new Galaxy S6 models are not waterproof.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 release date is April 10th, but we are still waiting for specific details from many carriers and for Galaxy S6 pre-order information. The Galaxy S6 Edge release date is the same day on U.S. carriers, though supply may be lower.

Verizon Galaxy S6 pre-orders start April 1st, but other carriers are still quiet on what to expect and when you can actually buy the device.

Phone Arena claims the Galaxy S6 release date and Galaxy S6 release date for the U.S. carriers will arrive on April 11th, one day after the official global release. This is a Saturday, which is an odd choice for carriers, who normally release new phones during the week, which allows for online orders to arrive on day one as well.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Design

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge share a metal design with some slight differences. The Galaxy S6 Edge delivers curved edges on the right and left side and is slightly thicker.

The big difference is the dual-curved edge display on the Galaxy S6 Edge.

Although similar the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge design is not identical.

The new metal design doesn’t limit color choices. Samsung offers four color options for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. There is no longer a Micro SD card slot or removable battery, but Samsung is able to add in wireless charging.

The Galaxy S6 display is a 2k display like we saw on the Galaxy Note 4. The Samsung Galaxy S6 resolution is 2,560 x 1,440. This is the same resolution as other flagship Android phones like the LG G3 and an increase from the Galaxy S5.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge displays are both 5.1-inches in size. This is the same as the Galaxy S5, and good news for many users who worried about an increase to an already large device.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge share camera specs and features. The Galaxy S6 cameras are 16MP on the back and 5MP on the front. Both support auto real time HDR so you can see the photo that the phone will take in HDR mode before you press the shutter.

Activate the rear camera with a double tap of the home button and you are ready to take a photo in 0.7 second so that you don’t miss a shot. The front facing Galaxy S6 camera is 5MP with a 120 degree wide-angle lens so you can fit more people into the photo.

The rear camera features a F1.9 aperture to let more light in and supports optical image stabilization.

Samsung toned down the customizations and worked to deliver better looking apps that match the material design of Android Lollipop. During the event and in the weeks after, Samsung made a big deal about removing un-needed in app buttons and removing the need to scroll to find important information in key apps.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 charges wirelessly with two major standards supported and there is fast charging when connected with a Micro USB cable. Samsung still includes Ultra Power Saving mode to stretch the battery significantly when you need more power.

A new fingerprint reader lets users place a finger on the home button instead of swipe, which will make it easier to use to secure the phone.

Samsung announced Samsung Pay, a new way to make payments using the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge at traditional cash registers where you would normally swipe a card. The Galaxy S6 will be able to send a wireless signal to the card swipe section of the cash register so it can work in more places than Apple Pay.
