10 Things to Do Before Installing Samsung Galaxy Marshmallow

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update roll out continues and today we want to provide you with some steps to take before installing your Samsung Galaxy Marshmallow update.

It took several months but Samsung’s Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is finally rolling out in force to Galaxy smartphones and tablets around the world.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update, Galaxy Note 5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update, and Galaxy Note 4 Android Marshmallow update have made substantial progress around the globe.

They’ve since been joined by Android Marshmallow updates for mid-range phones and Galaxy-branded tablets.

Note-5-5-1.22.32-PM

The Samsung Galaxy Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is a tempting upgrade and most of you will end installing it on your device(s).

Before you make the move, there are a few things we think you should do to ensure your Android Marshmallow download and installation goes smoothly.

We’re hearing about a number of Android Marshmallow issues with the software so you’ll want to be careful and take your time once your update arrives.

These are the things that we do before we install Android updates on our phones and tablets and they will help you keep your files safe and prevent some Marshmallow problems from popping up on your Galaxy smartphone or tablet.

Get Familiar with Android 6.0.1 & Marshmallow

Get Familiar with Android 6.0.1 & Marshmallow

Let's start with something very important.

One of the first things you'll want to do is get familiar with the changes coming with your version of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Each update is going to be a little bit different (carriers can't help themselves) but there some core elements to each.

There are a number of resources around the web but we'll provide you with some great starting points right here.

We've taken a deep dive into the differences between Lollipop and Marshmallow and you'll want to check the basics out so that you're comfortable with the changes.

Android 6.0.1, the version of Marshmallow rolling out to Galaxy devices, is a little different than Android 6.0. You can get familiar with some of Android 6.0.1's basics right here.

And then we get to the device level. That is to say that the Galaxy S6 Marshmallow update is a little different than the Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow update. We've outlined some of those differences and you can find them at the links provided.

Things will be different at the carrier level as well and you'll want to look into those changes as well. Unfortunately, those changes will arrive whenever Samsung and your carrier decide to push out Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow for your device. We'll provide you with the Verizon Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow release notes as an example.

If you haven't been following along, now is a great time to look into the new features and enhancements so that you're as proficient as possible after you download and install Marshmallow on your Galaxy phone or tablet.

Terrible – Both my son and I had marshmallow update 6 days ago. Both phones can no longer update off WiFi. Samsung wanted us to mail phones back for 10 days to examine. How’s that for customer support? Back to Apple and I really liked my S6 before the update.

I have experienced a number of issues since this update was installed including screen goes black and phone is frozen-multiple restarts during the day, enormous battery drain, links in Google app don’t connect, call quality is very poor ( person on the other end says it sounds like I am under water now), lags. Thinking about returning to Apple!

I absolutely despise this update. My phone (s6 edge +) was perfectly fine before and did not require anything changed. Now, it is posessed and does whatever it wants to. I desperately want it to go back to the way it was. I still have to pay too much money for a phone that an update made no longer work properly.

Update is terrible! My phone used charge so quickly in my car and now it practically doesn’t. Drove 4 hrs and charge started at 21% and 4 hrs. later it was at 43%. Other big issues- voice to text symbol no longer works and when making a call with speaker on sucks! Hate this update!

I have a note 5 with Verizon. The update caused problems with youtube, netflix and Google play. My phone would not download apps, not sign into netflix or play youtube videos over my home ATT uverse wifi. However, it all worked over 4G.
I did a factory restore after playing around with online googling for solutions. When that didn’t work, I called verizon.
After 3 Verizon tech support people, 1 best buy and 2 Samsung tech support people over a few days (including having a refurbished phone sent to me that had display problems) I discovered that the update switches your network to global. You need to switch back to lte/cdma. You need to completely remove power from your home router for a minute (including removing any backup battery it may have), then plug all back in. Finally, delete data from apps not working. If that doesn’t do it, Uninstall and reinstall. Now I’m good to go.

I have s6 Verizon carrier. Sorry to hear all the problems. At least I’m not crazy as Verizon employees treated me as if.
Wifi issue, call issue, calendar issue, mind of its own issue and more.
When I first got phone my charger didn’t work. It charged but not fast charge. Samsung said they would send me a new one. After a month I called and they denied stating they would replace charger without me returning charger 1st. First that was never told to me. I asked how will I charge my phone without a charger?
They again agreed to replace charger. It never arrived. I hesitate sending my phone to them. I will never get it back is my fear.
Verizon wants to charge me again for a phone. Terrible service from Samsung. Went to Best Buy to Samsung tech who was so rude. At one point he just walked off and left for lunch without even saying he was leaving. I was just left there with a broken phone. Again Samsung wants me to mail my phone to them. I don’t have a spare so what should I do?

Hi, in there it’s a “Phone number” option, actually looks like this tool is like forwarding calls, I think in “Phone number” option you can add the phone number you want to redirect incoming calls while it’s not available (cuz you are in a call over the other sim), it doesn’t work for me, I think carrier should let register forwarding number or something, try with yours and please tell me what you get.
      Regards.
      Carlos.

I am on Sprint and have a Samsung Gs5. I wish I would have done some research before installing the update. Occasionally, when waking the phone up, and on the lock screen, the text keyboard displays blocking my pin code pad. I have to reboot in order for it to go away. The phone has also gotten MUCH slower and lags at what seems like every function, including email. This is so frustrating, and the phone was working flawlessly with lollipop. Wish I could go back. Extremely disappointed. Battery does seem to diminish quicker also, and charging takes longer. If u have not installed yet, I highly recommend you hold off. Your phone will thank you. There needs to be a fix asap, or Samsung is going to have a big problem.

I have been having problems since the update a month ago. Problems are various including phone not working. Looks I am going to have to change my business account to another carrier and change it Iphones. I love the Note 5 for contractor business but it has to work or it isn’t worth having a Note 5.

OTW to Sprint this morning to give them one last chance in fixing my problems or all the company phones will be going to ATT.

sounds stupid but I want to complain that when I did the download I ended up with my entire phone back to factory (but my pics and stuff were still on it) and they took away the personalization for the text messaging. Seems silly but that PISSES ME OFF! there is NO reason for them to take that away! what the hell???

It’s getting as bad as Windows entertainment software…comes out broken…patches roll out for half life of product. Any chance they can hire people who actually know the products they are programming for? Perhaps phones are evolving faster than programmers can understand them?

I have Note 4 marshmallow update killed my phone. Been back to Samsung shop they had to wipe phone and start again plus an update. Now battery drain (have gone from charging once a day if necessary to charging 2/3 times a day every day) doesn’t connect properly to wifi, poor signal, most calls going direct to answerphone, now incompatible with my hands free in car (yes Renault are aware but no fix 6 weeks later) grr, FB freezes, other apps like eBay crashing….. Really really unhappy wish I hadn’t updated. Might as well not have a phone for the use it is

I have an S5 and marshmallow has left my sd card unusable, it wants me to reformat it and lose everything on it. Screen also locks up and freezes closed now. I have to pull the battery at least 5 times a day just to get it to start working again.I haven’t had to pull the battery every before.

I had a very painful upgrade experience for my Galaxy S5. After upgrading, my phone wouldn’t charge. None of the chargers, including the one that came with the phone would charge it. When plugged in, the phone would start charging, then I’d get an error message that indicated that the charger wasn’t compatible with the phone and charging would be halted. I reached out to Verizon, who indicated that this was a known Samsung issue. The resolution was to backup all data then perform a factory restore on the phone. This ultimately fixed the problem, but it will take me days to get the phone back to how I want it. Definitely consider before taking the upgrade.

    • Jason

      06/13/2016 at 10:00 am

Update. Like other posters, my phone is charging VERY slowly now. I’ve had it plugged in with my quick charge cable for 1.5 hours and it has charged from 2% to 46%. Typically it would have completed by now.

      • Stefan t

        08/29/2016 at 10:11 am

I’d go for a calibration tool… to me your 46% is in fact 100% but your phone battery knowledge is incorrectly callibrated. Downloaf a decent battery calibration tool read carefully to understand its purpose and test… after the test this will go away.

After marshmallow update galaxy s5 on Rogers (canada) doesn’t receive text messages and typical battery drain in faster. I won’t touch phone in 8 hrs and almost or is dead. Whule on phone for maybe 5 min it drops 10 percent easy of just normal use.

CAN NOT log-in to even access phone contents OR MAKE PHONE CALLS due to fingerprint scanner requiring backup password, no samsung account set-up and no offer to sign-in via google account. This is so messed up! Would not have updated if I had known this would be the case. Only solution seems to be factory reset. I AM SO PISSED OFF, SAMSUNG. This is atrocious!

There are some differences with marshmallow yea you said that like 20 times in a row. Obviously there are differences otherwise there wouldn’t be an update!

    08/05/2016 at 12:27 am

Also dislike this update. No way to assign new or existing g apps to sd card installed. Can’t even check what is on sd card now. Ridiculous update.

    • Stefan t

      08/29/2016 at 10:04 am

This is due to marshmallowand google is to blame. Had same with motorola. In fact your sd card is no longer an internal storage device but a pluggeable media ( storage for sound). So gone connecti g your phone to your pc over usb. However you can transfer your data to google drive… one drive … dropbox… and store it via this means to your sd.

Well I have an unlocked j3 2016. If i’d believe its planned for marshmallow 6. My kids have had theirs on their basic phone motorola moto e (a 99.99 euro budget phone). I face 4g issues…. tried many things like dialing a #*#*4636*#*# …. api doesnt support it… clear cache… reset… pull out battery and uncharge it… pulled out the sim… i does not resolve untill by a accident i reverted back to 3g and that works. Being on the same place… with my son being next to me. No 4g for km’s and forever. Fortunately i discovered switching to 3g and reverting back to 4g works. I hoped the new marshmallow could resolve this… now i tale an even much higher risk to go to thatversion… are there also good reports and are these the exceptions ? The fact there is no world rollout could indicate there are issues… also seeing the delays to offer it so mid to lowet budget samsung anno …

Well I have an unlocked j3 2016. If i’d believe its planned for marshmallow 6. My kids have had theirs on their basic phone motorola moto e (a 99.99 euro budget phone) up and running without bugs !!!!
I have 4g issues , regulary …. tried many things like rebooting, dialing a #*#*4636*#*# …. for a ping test with my provider, dowloaded 4636 app, api doesnt support it… cleared cache… removed battery… removed sim … discharged with battery removed… it didn’t revolve … so no more mobile network ! By accident i reverted back to 3g and that works. My sons motorola moto e has 4G at the same place I’m in when I don’t have 4G. The 4G sign is indicated but it simply is not working (Belgium/Proximus)
Thereafter switching back to 4G worked. Still I have this is about 30% of my connection attempts now and the only cure is to revert back to 3G. Therefore I was on the look for Marshmallow 6 as Lollipop 5.1.1 is the highest update untill now. I see many await the Marshmallow 6 for even the J3. Now reading about all the misery it brings to people not having issues untill the upgrade is horrible. Is this the reason the release is delayed or not global ? The problem is that some report problems, but those who have none won’t post here do they ? Anyhow I will keep mine on Lollipop even with the 4G bug.

    Hi,

I need a new update ASAP ’cause my phone is always rebooting every single 2 hours !!!!! It’s really frustrating! Also, I can’t shut the screen off and open it. Sooooo many bugs! What’s going on to do update that is not tweaked?!

I installed marshmallow 6.0.1 it was working normally but after installing last security update happened this. Its drain battery too much even 2 times i charge battery full to use the phone during the day.

I got tired of trying to fix my S6 Edge. Tried everything. Cannot undo the update, so I’m screwed. Selling it. Never will buy Samsung again. Between their recent product gaffs and the nice phone killing update, I’m done.

I have a Galaxy Tablet A, when upgraded to marshmallow I lost the ability for my aviation program Anywheremap/freedon to recognize my SD card (64 gig) so with the internal memory at 16 gig, and all the stuff that the syst. loads there is not enough left for updating my monthly update files… Do you know of any fixes or someone I might contact for this situation…
