The first reason you should avoid the iOS 8.4 update, at least for right now, is if you are unprepared for it. iOS 8.4 isn't as big as iOS 8.0 or iOS 9 but it still has the potential to cause problems on your iPhone 5. If you're planning to use your iPhone 5 for your job or a school project, you're going to want to do a couple of things before installing the iOS 8.4 update. Do not install this update if you have yet to check in with IT (if you have one) or look over reviews for apps crucial to your work flow.

You'll also want to avoid iOS 8.4 if you're traveling and you might also consider skipping it if you're having an solid experience on iOS 8.3 or below and you don't care about its security updates, fixes or Apple Music.
