Apple’s Tablet Mixes a Cocktail of Liner Notes and Interactive Music Experience

itunes_button_logoIt may be 2010, or it may be this fall, in any event, it looks like things are moving away from rumor and into speculation about what an Apple Tablet will actually be. According to the Financial Times, there is a content component that goes hand in hand with the Apple Tablet. Apple and the music companies are working on an interactive experience that will could bring CD-length music, videos, liner notes, and who knows what else to market. Of course the music industry is hoping this will help them sell more albums as opposed to just songs. Apparently the codename for this is Cocktail and the Financial Times article moves the timeline up to this holiday season.

In any event, it looks like those of us who predicted that whatever Apple would come up with as a Tablet would be some sort of entertainment device were on to it. Of course on a Tablet sized device, movies and videos of all stripes will be a big component as well. I also think this will see eBooks as a big component.

So here’s the question. What’s your interest in CD-length music complete with an interactive component?

My take on the apple tablet is that it needs to be a education/entertainment device, period. Forget the 3G and all that stuff. Get this into the hands of students who have wireless everywhere on campus, and Apple will sell a ton of these. Of course, this is providing they have a decent note taking application in the works and a pen-input option for taking notes. The latest news here that Apple is working with the music industry tells me that they may be leaning toward this demographic with this device.

If Apple does release this Mac Tablet, they could gear it towards a eBook reader as well. This could be a good seller for Apple. A lot of people like to have Mac products, and as long it actually runs Leopard this could be really nice. This can sync back with your Macbook, or iMac, etc… With the 10″ screen size it will more likely be the size of a note pad, which is great. If inking is good you can take notes just as you do with your note pad.

If the mac tablet turns out to be a giant ipod touch. I’ll probably buy one after its out for a few months. If it has any sort of note taking functions, I’ll be camping out to get one on the first day.

The ipod function will be nice, but I need note taking, pdf, txt and doc reading and ebook reading. If I can have it all, I’ll take it.
