iPhone 4 Reviews Trickling In

Published

on

The first volley of iPhone 4 reviews are hitting the Internet tonight and will show up on newsstands tomorrow. The reviews are overwhelming positive as Apple, which isn’t a huge surprise. Josh’s put together a nice roundup of the first few iPhone 4 reviews over at Notebobooks.com and will be adding to the list over the next couple of days.

Reviewers are pretty excited about Facetime, but are still experiencing problems with AT&T’s network. While the iPhone 4 is designed for improved reception, don’t expect any miracles compared to your iPhone 3GS.

If you’re not sure if you want to buy an iPhone 4 or not, there’ll be no shortage of opinions here at GBM and elsewhere starting tomorrow. Sumocat’s expecting a visit from the FedEx guy tomorrow and several GBM/Notebooks.com contributors will be picking up new iPhones on Thursday. We hope to hear your thoughts as well.

Mossberg’s comments about AT&T were pretty damning. Won’t do much good when it comes to changing things, but it’s a big call out.

Mossbergs point is relevant I think for those that live in a major metro area…but I can say, in Tampa, the service has been great (I travel a bit too, and really dont have great problems…except in NYC). Can’t wait until tomorrow!

I have to agree with GMA. I travel all over Texas (Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Houston) and have had dropped call problems a few times in the Houston metro area. Away from home this summer, Oklahoma City, St. Louis, and Chicago were strong 3g, as was Hartford and New Haven. Weakest link, like everyone else, was New York (LaGuardia) on fly through. I think despite Verizon’s bravado about being able to handle an iPhone, I feel any carrier would have been crushed by teh data load, and come tomorrow afternoon, all of AT&T’s network may implode. One other point – I am REALLY annoyed by Verizon’s “It’s up to Apple to bring us an iPhone for review” attitude from its top management – you can’t tell me they wouldn’t be drooling over a phone that would bring in a million subscriptions overnight, no matter how pathetic their network was. Just ask AT&T.
