Fujitsu Intros ScanSnap s1100, Great Scanner for Mobile Pros

I’m trying to eliminate as much paper as possible from my life to get more organized. The ScanSnap S1300 has been instrumental in that endeavor, but it’s not quite as mobile as I’d like and rarely leaves my desk. Enter The Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100, a scanner that shares many of the same usability features with its bigger siblings, but is a fraction of the size.

Fujitsu officially announced the S1100 at CES 2011, but I’ve been using a review unit for the past couple of weeks. I’ve been very pleased with the scanner so far and recommend it to anyone that needs to digitize paper on the go.

The ScanSnap s1100 is very compact and easily fits in any of my laptop bags. It measures 10.74″ x 1.87″ x 1.33″ and weighs just 12.3 ounces, the same as a can of Coke.

It looks like a pretty simple device and scan qualities are more than good enough for both home and office use. There’s a single button to get scans going and the bundled software allows for a lot of flexibility. This ScanSnap works with both PCs and Macs. The scanner is powered by a single USB cable and scans color letter documents in just 7.5 seconds.

Like with its other scanners, Fujitsu’s made it easy to get your documents onto your computer and up into the cloud. As with my S1300, I set up the S1100 to automatically send all scans to Evernote. Users can setup the ScanSnap S1100 to scan documents into Excel, Word or Acrobat. Business card data can be saved into Outlook, Act! or Excel in Windows and Address Book on OSX.

Even though you have to load pages one at a time, the ScanSnap S1100 does allow you to easily create multi-page documents manually. If you plan on scanning stacks and stacks of paperwork, I recommend getting one of Fujitsu’s larger ScanSnaps.

With an MSRP of $199, the Fujitsu ScanSnap is a great buy for mobile professionals who want to cut down on clutter and work more efficiently.
