Sales of BlackBerry PlayBook Exceeded Best Buy’s Expectations

Despite early mixed reviews for Research in Motion’s first foray into the tablet space, the PlayBook slate is doing well in terms of sales according to retail partner Best Buy. Though Best Buy did not release any early sales figure for the tablet, the retailer did say, “To date, we have far exceeded those expectations and we’re finding that customers are even more interested in purchasing once they’ve tested the PlayBook in the store.”

Best Buy said that it had high expectations for the BlackBerry PlayBook since RIM’s BlackBerry smartphones were a big seller. The company did not say what those expectations were, except to say that sales “have so far exceeded those expectations.”

Though the PlayBook does not launch with native personal information management apps–like a native email, contact, or calendar app–the company says those apps are coming. For now, users have to pair up a BlackBerry smartphone to view PIM data through a secure Bluetooth connection called BlackBerry Bridge.

The PlayBook benefits from its QNX engine, which allows the BlackBerry Tablet OS to multitask beautifully. The device also has a solid build, beautiful display, and gesture support.
