Verizon Trounces Competition in ‘Fastest Mobile Networks’ Testing

Published

on

PCMag has run its annual “Fastest Mobile Networks” testing and Verizon’s 4G LTE network (surprise, surprise) ran away with the overall award for fastest network in the United States.

Verizon Tests

The publication’s tests stretched across 21 cities and featured more than 140,000 tests. The results have produced winners in various categories and we’ll run those down real quick. In the northeast United States, Verizon 4G was the winner. It also won in the southeast, central, west, and of course, nationwide.

The only test that Verizon’s 4G LTE network did not win was in ‘rural’ America where AT&T still dominates. As expected, the only other LTE network out there, MetroPCS, was as good as a “very-good” 3G network. In other words, Verizon blew it away.

As for Sprint and WiMax, it suffers from capped upload speeds and struggled with “speed and consistency.” I can attest to this because I too was running 4G tests over the weekend and Sprint’s 4G coverage in San Francisco paled in comparison to Verizon’s 4G LTE network. It’s no wonder it’s making the move to 4G LTE in the future.

T-Mobile was the second fastest network nationwide and it’s continuing to upgrade at a very consistent rate.

No wonder AT&T wants to buy it.
