Motorola Photon 4G Bootloader Gets Unlocked

Published

on

Motorola Photon 4GIt’s time to pull out some champagne and rejoice because the bootloader of the Motorola Photon 4G, you know, Sprint’s latest high-end WiMax 4G handset, has been unlocked which means that there might just be hope for the Motorola Droid Bionic after all. The good folks over at the XDA forums have figured out a way to get this thing free from its chains and if you’re willing to follow some instructions.

Now, from reading all of the user comments, it appears that this works but you’ll need to be very careful (as always) when trying to perform this process. There is always the chance that if you do one thing wrong, it could doom your device. So please, be careful, we don’t want any more bricked phones in the world.

So, great news for Photon 4G owners but many even better news for future Droid Bionic owners. The Photon 4G has only been out since July 31st and the fact that it has only taken a few days to crack could mean that the Droid Bionic could see an unlocked bootloader shortly after launch. I realize the Photon 4G and Droid Bionic are different but a guy can hope can’t he?

For those brave Photon 4G owners out there, you can find the instructions to unlock your bootloader here.

Good luck.

Do not do this unless you know what you are doing.  I remember when Linux first came out and there were warning that if you didn’t pick the right video card it would fry your video card.  Granted I seemed to avoid damaging situations such as this, but unlocking the bootloader has awesome benefits, but also quite a steep downside.

It reminds me of “If you play with fire, you might get burned”

Somebody tell me this: is the Photon 4G a great sound investment in a phone and where can I purchase it along with its lapdock or shall I say accessories. I also want to know is it better than the HTC EVO 4G LTE or the GALAXY NOTE
