Xoom 2 to Get Rehashed as Xyboard on Verizon?

Published

on

The Xoom 2 may get a re-brand on Verizon Wireless when those tablets launch. The slates may give up the Xoom branding for the Xyboard (pronounced cy-board, like cyborg), name.

The carrier has been experimenting with various names for its smartphones lately. The most recent case is with the HTC Vigor, a device that was leaked with many names including the Droid Incredible HD and the HTC Thunderbolt 2 but Verizon ultimately settled on the HTC Rezound branding.

The two Xoom 2 tablets may be headed to market as the Droid Xyboard 10.1 and Droid Xyboard 8.2 tablets according to pocketnow.

Given that Motorola ultimately owns the Xoom branding and has released the Xoom in WiFi-only form and under various GSM/HSPA variants, Verizon may be headed to the Xyboard branding to keep the brand exclusive and under the Droid family.

The tablet will resemble the design of the recently released Droid RAZR smartphone. The slates will be released with Android 3.2 Honeycomb, 1.2 GHz dual-core CPU, 1 GB RAM, and 16 GB internal storage. The tablets will either come with 10.1- or 8.2-inch displays, though both tablets will maintain an IPS screen with a 1280 X 800 resolution.

The devices have not been announced by Verizon Wireless.
