OS X Mountain Lion Arrives in July for $19.99

The new version of OS X arrives in July with a $19.99 upgrade fee and support for upgrades all the way back to Snow Leopard.

Users who buy a new Mac today will get a free upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion when it launches in July, and users who already own a Mac can upgrade without first upgrading to OS X Lion.

This cheap upgrade policy is likely to spur users into upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion where they will have access to the App Store.

OS X Mountain Lion is an incredibly affordable upgrade for current Mac owners. Windows 8 arrives later this fall, which will likely come with a higher price.

If you purchase a new MacBook Pro or MacBook Air starting today, you’ll get a code for a free upgrade in the Mac App Store. Microsoft is offering an update promotion to Windows 8 with a new PC purchase between now and January 31st. The Windows 8 upgrade is $14.99 for new PC purchases, but no word on the upgrade price for Windows 8.
