No Windows Phone 8 From HP

We had reported on rumors that Hewlett Packard may be working with Microsoft in releasing an HP-branded Windows Phone 8 smartphone recently. However, as it turns out, this information is not correct and HP representatives have reached out to GottaBeMobile to address the rumors.

“This story is fabrication and is not related to anything HP has in the works,” an HP PR representative had informed us. “Someone is making stuff up.”

HP had previously worked with Microsoft in the early Pocket PC and Windows Mobile days–both mobile operating systems are the predecessors to the modern day Windows Phone. As it stands, it doesn’t look like HP will be going with Windows Phone.

hp-logoThis, however, does not rule out HP’s endeavors to re-enter the smartphone market. Since its webOS days, HP has not released a smartphone and the company continues to remain quiet about what operating system it will choose for its future phone. Earlier this year, a company executive had implied that HP would re-enter the mobile market.

“The answer is yes but I cannot give a timetable,” HP Senior Director of Consumer PCs and Tablets for Asia-Pacific Yam Su Yin said in an interview with India Express. “It would be silly if we say no. HP has to be in the game.”

And according to Yin, HP is still watching the market to see how it could differentiate itself and offer customers a better user experience.
