New iPhone 6 Photos & Videos Show Off Latest Rumors

New videos of the alleged iPhone 6 show off the potential size of Apple’s next iPhone and also offer a glimpse at what the iPhone 6 could look like next to the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 4s and Apple’s current iPads, the iPad mini with Retina Display and the iPad Air.

iPhone 6 rumors continue to swirl as we push deeper into the year and closer to Apple’s WWDC conference in June. While the iPhone 6 itself isn’t expected in June, Apple is expected to detail iOS 8, its upcoming operating system that should arrive on board the iPhone 6 later on this year. iOS 8 rumors suggest a host of changes from iOS 7.

In addition to the iPhone 6’s software, we’re hearing a ton about the iPhone 6 itself. Rumors now emerge on a daily basis detailing everything from its rumored release date to its possible screen size to its processor, camera, and its design. Design rumors have emerged consistently over the past few weeks and many of the leaks have been supposed iPhone 6 mockups.

iPhone 6 mockups have emerged numerous times over the past few weeks and while they may not be based on the final iPhone 6 design, there is also a possibility that they do, in fact, show off the iPhone 6 in all of its glory. These mockups are consistent with several credible iPhone 6 rumors and at this point, they’re our best window into the iPhone 6’s potential design.

In the past, we’ve seen these mockups compared to the iPhone 5s, Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 and today, a new comparison brings some new devices into the fold.

9to5Mac, in a new video, showcases its alleged iPhone 6 mockup next to several of Apple’s current devices including the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c and the company’s two high-end iPad models. The comparison also ropes in the iPod touch, a device that rumors say the iPhone 6 design will borrow from.

The iPhone 6 model seen here appears to be the rumored 4.7-inch model and not the gargantuan 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model that we’ve seen emerge in rumors and mockups. This explains why the device is so much smaller than the 7.9-inch iPad mini with Retina Display and the 9.7-inch Apple iPad Air.  It does, however, take up nearly half the length of the iPad mini thanks to its larger display. The overall footprint, however, is much smaller.

This iPhone 6 mockup also shows how the device might compare to Apple’s current iPhone lineup. It’s much thinner than the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s though the iPod touch gives it a run for its money. Apple’s iPod touch is much thinner than its current iPhone lineup and measures just 6mm thin.

Vietnamese site Zing also today released photos and video of its own that depicts a similar iPhone 6 mockup that is said to measure 6.5mm thin. Instead of an iPhone 4s or iPhone 5s, the site uses a banana to show off the overall size of this model. The photos and video offer another up close and personal look at a mockup that could resemble the real iPhone 6.

The mockups both show the rounded edges that will supposedly be coming along with the iPhone 6’s design. We also see how the button layout might change on Apple’s next iPhone. The iPhone 6 design could see the power button shifted to the side. Rumors also point to a different style for the volume controls.

Rumors suggest that Apple could deliver an iPhone 6 that is up to 26% thinner than the iPhone 5s. A recent leak from Ukrainian website suggests Apple is aiming for a smartphone as thin as 6mm, but Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities believes a 6.5 – 7mm thickness is easier for the company to achieve. Recent leaks agree with Kuo’s assessment and point to an iPhone 6 that could measure right around 7mm thin.

A recent Macotakara report shared two possible sets of iPhone 6 dimensions for both the 4.7-inch model and 5+inch model, dimensions that lineup with what we’re seeing here.

  • iPhone 6 (4.7) -140 x 70 x 7mm
  • iPhone 6 (5.7) – 160 x 80 x 7mm

In a note shared by MacRumors, Kuo also says that he believes that the iPhone 6 will come with a power button on right and narrower bezels. This lines up with what we’ve seen on several leaked iPhone 6 mockups. Kuo accurately predicted many of the iPhone 5s’ features before its launch last September so his information is considered more credible than most.

An iPhone 6 with a 4.7-inch display will likely be bigger than the iPhone 5s and iPhone 4s.

As we push deeper into 2014, iPhone 6 rumors are starting to firm up. Rumors currently point to two different iPhone 6 models. One model is said to be between 4.5-inches and 4.7-inches in size, similar to the mockup seen here. The other iPhone 6 is thought to be somewhere around 5.5-inches or 5.7-inches. Rumors suggest that the iPhone 6’s display will jump in resolution.

The biggest iPhone 6 leak to date comes from the well-sourced Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities. He sees an iPhone 6 coming with some substantial upgrades including:

  • iPhone 6 Screen Size and Resolution – 4.7- inch (1334 x 750) 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080).
  • iPhone 6 Release Dates – 4.7-inch in September, 5.5-inch in Holiday season.
  • iPhone 6 Design – Power button on right, narrower bezels, larger iPhone 6 as two-hands needed.
  • iPhone 6 Camera – No major Megapixel bump, but added image stability.
  • iPhone 6 Specs – A8, 1GB RAM, Touch ID, 6.5mm to 7mm thickness, NFC.

Kuo’s release date information lines up with rumors that point to an iPhone 6 release date in September. It’s still not clear if both iPhone 6 models, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will emerge in the fall. Rumors have pointed to a delayed release for the larger iPhone but that, of course, is still unconfirmed.
