Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Videos Leak Ahead of Unveil

The Samsung Galaxy S5 was announced back in February and eventually arrived around the globe and on most major carriers in the United States in early April, but the company has a few more smartphones in the works.

Over the past few weeks we’ve been hearing a lot about a Galaxy S5 Prime and a Samsung Galaxy S5 Active, and while we’re still waiting for more “Prime” details, today a slew of videos have leaked that fully unveil the Galaxy S5 Active.

Back in March rumors began to swirl that an additional Galaxy S5 model would be released, presumably the Active, and today it was pretty much confirmed. Just like last year it appears that Samsung will be releasing a Galaxy S5 Active for AT&T, and possibly other carriers, as the device was leaked today in a round of videos on YouTube.

S5-active

According to the leakster this rugged smartphone will be very similar to the model last year, and the current Galaxy S5 that’s readily available around the globe. The first video appeared yesterday, but this afternoon TK Tech News has posted six different videos revealing all sorts of information about the Galaxy S5 Active, as well as talking about the protective shell the phone in encased in.

The Galaxy S5 Active will be dust and shock proof, water resistant, and probably employ a few other features that makes it more durable than the current version. However, you’ll quickly notice from the slew of videos provided the final design is being masked by an aluminum case wrapped around the phone. The leakster seems to think this is part of the design, and it could be to make it more industrial. Or it could possibly just be a disguise that won’t make the final version. That being said, enjoy the few videos below of the unknown and unannounced Galaxy S5 Active.

Another in-depth hands-on video was also released this afternoon giving us another look at the upcoming smartphone, but we’ll have to wait for more details from Samsung and AT&T themselves to confirm all of the information. Here’s another hands-on of the Galaxy S5 Active.

According to the videos and readings we’re seeing right on screen the Galaxy S5 Active will be very similar to the current GS5, but of course be much more durable. The leakster seems to think it has a better display, possibly higher than 1080p, but we can’t be certain.

Just like last year the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active comes with a large display, likely the same 5.1-inch size as the original, and has dedicated physical buttons on the bottom side of the device. There’s a similar camera setup, the same flash and heart-rate monitor on board, but sadly we have no exact details about the camera. It is likely the same 16 megapixel camera as the original, but could also be a 13 megapixel camera to keep the overall cost down.

There doesn’t appear to be a fingerprint scanner like the Galaxy S5, but his latest video reveals a Barometer will be included, something not many smartphones offer. Overall the videos are quite light on details, but hopefully more information will be provided in the coming days. Either from leaks, or officially from Samsung and AT&T themselves.

From what we can gather the Galaxy S5 Active will sport a 5.1-inch 1080p HD display, quad-core Snapdragon 801 with 2GB of RAM, and probably the same 16GB of storage configuration. The back is removable to swap out the battery, add a SIM card, or change a micro-SD card out for additional storage, and the leakster thinks the camera has Optical Image Stabilization.

The Galaxy S4 Active received a lot of criticism last year for not being as water “resistant” as many buyers expected, so this time around it looks like Samsung really stepped things up. It’s worth noting the current Galaxy S5 is dust and water resistant with an IP67 certification, so we’re not really sure who the Active will target aside from a few very rough users. With all these videos leaking we expect more information from Samsung or AT&T to arrive sometime soon.
