iOS 8 Bug Could Randomly Erase iCloud Drive Data

Published

on

iOS 8 is out in full force and users have been taking advantage of all the new features, but a bug that’s been discovered apparently erases iCould Drive documents and data without the user’s permission.

According to several users, using the “Reset All Settings” option by navigating to General > Reset has caused files to be permanently deleted from a user’s iCloud Drive account.

Of course, the “Reset All Settings” option says that it won’t delete any data, so this looks to be a glaringly huge bug in iOS 8.

However, it appears as though OS X Mavericks users can recover these deleted files through a backup, while OS X Yosemite beta users are pretty much left out to dry, unless they have Time Machine up and running.

iCloud Drive on iOS 8

This isn’t the only bug that has fallen upon iOS 8, though. Ever since the new mobile operating system released earlier this month, users have been experiencing all sorts of issues, especially when iOS 8.0.1 was released less than a week after the initial launch. The minor update was supposed to fix a handful of small bug fixes but instead introduced a world of bigger problems, including breaking cellular service as well as the Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 6.

Apple quickly pulled the update from its servers, but the damage was already done for the most part.

Users who experienced these issues will see Searching… appear up in the left-hand corner of the screen in the status bar where the cell signal is usually located. When the “Searching” prompt appears instead, it means that you don’t have cell service in that particular area. However, even while located in a well-covered cellular area, some users have claimed they couldn’t get service after updating to iOS 8.0.1.

Apple quickly released iOS 8.0.2 to fix issues that iOS 8.0.1 brought, and that has done the trick for many users, but the residual effects are still left over for some users.

Some users reported that even after updating to iOS 8.0.2, the Springboard crashes and restarts constantly. Furthermore, other users are still reporting that they can’t get any cell service after updating to iOS 8.0.2.

Over on our end, a member of the GottaBeMobile team says that he’s been having issues as well on his iPhone 6 Plus, where the screen won’t respond suddenly at random times. The only solution that has been found so far for this is restoring the iPhone 6 in DFU mode, but even then the screen won’t respond.

It seems like smooth sailing for iOS 8.0.2 for a lot of users, but it also seems some iPhone 6 units are still plagued by the haunting of iOS 8.0.1.

Apple usually doesn’t let you downgrade to previous versions of iOS after you’ve already updated, but in this case, the company is still signing iOS 8.0.0, so it’s still open to download and install if you need to go back to it for this reason.

As for the iCloud Drive deletion bug, Apple engineers are said to be looking into the problem, and hopefully it’ll be all fixed up by the time OS X Yosemite is released next month to the public.

If you’re not familiar with iCloud Drive, it’s essentially Apple’s own take on Dropbox or Google Drive, allowing users to save documents and other files quickly and easily to a folder that syncs across all of your Apple devices, making it an easy cloud storage solution for Mac and iOS users.

My Ipad 2 is not fixed after updating to 8.0.2, Still plagued by No Service, sluggish browser etc. Many others report the same online. I sure hope an update resolves these bugs soon, or Apple allows us to return to ioS 7 – when I was happy.
