Nexus 6 & Nexus 9 Photos & Details

Both Google’s brand new Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet running the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop will be released in November, starting with the Nexus 9 on November 3rd. Now that both devices have been announced, pre-orders open from select retailers and the Google Play Store, we figured a few pictured and details about both were in order.

Earlier today we received Google’s latest devices, as many of you probably know, and you’ll want to check out our Nexus 6 hands-on first, then the Nexus 9 hands-on linked to below. It’s been a busy month for Google, but things are just getting started. Android 5.0 is about to arrive for multiple Nexus devices, and the two newcomers are set to be released in the next few weeks.

Most prospective buyers already know plenty about the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, but if not, below are a few photos of Google’s latest devices, as well as all the details you’ll need to know before buying one come next month.

Earlier this month, Google posted a quick blog post and announced the all-new Nexus 6 smartphone, the Nexus 9 tablet, a Nexus Player and the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop software update. All the reports and rumors that were floating around for months were put to rest.

We’ve seen plenty about them both already, but now they’re almost here, review units are going out, buyers will want to know all the details and see a few clear photos, so we’ll be doing exactly that below. Starting with the new smartphone first.

Nexus 6

This year the Nexus 6 is made by Motorola, rather than LG like the past two years, and it finally delivers a premium Android smartphone from Google. Gone are the cheap plastics and mediocre specs, and meet the impressive flagship premium Nexus 6 smartphone. Google and Motorola didn’t skimp out anywhere, and improved the device across the board compared to previous versions. In fact, the Nexus 9 can compete with any of the Android competition. Devices like the Galaxy Note 4, the LG G3, and even the iPhone 6.

The Nexus 6 is the biggest, fastest, and best Nexus smartphone to date. It’s also huge. It has all the top-tier specs users come to expect, rather than slightly undercutting the competition and offering a lower price. It’s on par with the Note 4, Galaxy S5, and all other manufactures this year, if not beating many in multiple key areas. Without getting into it too much, here’s some more photos, the specs, what we know about the release date, and pricing.

Motorola didn’t hold back. Everything from a huge 5.96-inch Quad-HD display, front facing speakers, and a massive battery for all-day usage. No more poor battery life and mediocre photos from the camera like the Nexus 5.

So when can you get one? We’re not entirely sure. Pre-orders went live on October 29th, sold out within minutes, and haven’t returned since. However, T-Mobile has confirmed the Nexus 6 will be available online and in stores starting November 12th. That could be the first official release date. Play Store orders will ship starting on November 21st, and probably be delayed as more orders are accepted and stock depletes.

Don’t worry though, because for the first time in Nexus history, the Nexus 6 will be available from all five major carriers in the United States. Both on contract, or outright. That’s T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, US Cellular, and yes, even Verizon Wireless.

Nexus 6 Price

The Nexus 6 will likely be $199 on contract from select carriers, but no details have been announced yet from any US carrier. That said, the Nexus 6 isn’t cheap like other Nexus smartphones, and is rather expensive. But you’re getting a premium device with top-tier specs. It’s better than the Note 4, yet costs less. Many have complained about the price, but considering what you get, it’s fairly priced.

The Nexus 6 32GB is $649, and the 64GB model is $699. This is outright, no contracts. We could see a $199 and $249 price from carriers, but will have to wait and see. It comes in Midnight Blue, or Cloud White. We’ll update once we know more.

Nexus 9

This year Google changed things up completely for its Nexus tablet. Instead of a budget friendly small 7-inch slate like the past few years, they opted for a premium 8.9-inch Nexus 9 made by HTC. This is the first HTC tablet in years, and it brings along their excellent design, front facing speakers, and much much more.

Much like the Nexus 7 paved the way for wallet-friendly Android tablets, the Nexus 9 is aiming to pave the way for premium Android tablets to take on the iPad. It has a lot going for it, and is one of, if not the best Android tablet released to date.

The Nexus 9 went up for pre-order October 17th days after Google announced it, and it will officially be in stores like Walmart, Best Buy, Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, and many online retailers starting Monday, November 3rd. The 8.9-inch 2048 x 1536 full HD display and the new 4:3 aspect ratio offers an excellent viewing experience no matter what you’re doing, and the new front facing speakers ensure watching Netflix or YouTube is as good as it will be on any tablet. Google and HTC delivered an excellent device here, and you’ll probably want to buy one.

Nexus 9 Price

The Nexus 9 isn’t as cheap as previous Nexus tablets, but as you saw from the list of specs above, it’s one of the best and most impressive tablets around, and an increase in price was expected. You’ll be able to snag the 16GB model for $399 in White or Black, and the 32GB option is $479 in White, Black, or a limited edition Sand Gold color. Then of course the 4G LTE option is $599, and should be released near the middle to end of November. We’ll update once we learn more about the Sand and 4G LTE availability, a only the first two colors and the WiFi option will be available on release day.
