LG G3 Android 5.0 Update Rumored for Early Arrival

Published

Back in October Google announced three brand new Nexus products, including the Nexus 6 smartphone, and along with them debuted the brand new Android 5.0 Lollipop software updating. Delivering a brand new look and feel to the Android operating system.

A few weeks later LG confirmed the LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update is a work in progress, and users can expect it to arrive before the end of the year. Today though, that progress is being displayed thanks to some leaked screenshots showing the LG G3 Android 5.0 update is coming along nicely, and could arrive sooner than many were expecting.

Earlier this year LG announced its brand new flagship G3 smartphone. Offering one of the best overall devices so far in 2014 with top-tier specs, an impressive 5.5-inch Quad-HD display like the Nexus 6, and extremely small bezels making for a big screen but a small, pocketable and portable handset. Read on for more details regarding the update.

The impressive LG G3 currently runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat, and has yet to see an update to the new and improved, mostly security fixes, Android 4.4.4 KitKat that Google debuted back in June. However, we’re still expecting at least one small bug fix update before the LG G3 Android 5.0 OTA arrives.

According to the official LG Facebook page, the LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be released inside of Q4 2014. Meaning before the end of the year. While this was only confirmed by the LG Germany page, it’s safe to say the update will arrive in the U.S. first. They also took the moment to briefly mention the LG G2 Android 5.0 update would quickly follow, but that the G3 gets priority.

As you can see below, the new and improved Android 5.0 update for the LG G3 will look extremely similar to the company’s completely revamped interface that debuted with Android KitKat on the LG G3. The same sleek, thin and minimalistic design and colors will all remain, only they’ve integrated much of the improved features of Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Of course the notification bar has been completely revamped with some tweaks we’ve seen on the Nexus 6 with Android 5.0. the brightness slider, and a few other aspects like quick toggle. The leak arrived courtesy of LifesGoodBlog, who shared the screenshot shown above and a few more details about the LG G3 Android 5.0 update release date.

They’ve managed to get a screenshot of the all new Android 5.0 interface on the LG G3, and mention a few things we detailed above, as well as the material design guidelines and shadowing implemented in the new version of Android.

However, the biggest news from this post isn’t the details and the progress of the LG G3 Android 5.0 update, it’s the release date. While this can’t be trusted, as bugs or delays may present themselves, according to their sources LG G3 owners can expect an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop “within the next few weeks” which would be huge.

LG has been one of the slowest manufacturers to software updates in the past, and the LG G2 things weren’t any better. Android 5.0 was released to manufacturers on November 3rd, and if they can get the update out before the end of November, the LG G3 could be one of the first non-Nexus devices to see the update.

Also, for those with the LG G2, we’ve also received confirmation it will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop, but that may not arrive until early 2015.

As a reminder, LG Germany stated “before the end of the year” but this new leaks suggests it could actually be here sooner rather than later. Stay tuned for more details.

Yea they’ve struggled in the past, but seem to be making a real effort to take on HTC and Samsung.
