Moto X 2014 Android Lollipop Release Notes Arrive as Upgrade Nears

It looks like we’re getting really close to the Moto X 2014 Android Lollipop release. Early this morning users with a keen eye noticed the Motorola Moto X 2014 release notes for Android Lollipop, that’s the latest version of Android that includes the new Android Material Design for apps and more.

The release notes and page itself breakdown everything that users need to know about the Android Lollipop upgrade for the Moto X 2014.

Listed under enhancements are all thing things that Moto X 2014 user can expect from the upgrade on just about every phone running Google’s Android operating system. A new multitasking menu and update to Chrome will treat every web page as a separate app that’s available through a redesigned multitasking menu.

For those who like to manage their time more precisely, Android Lollipop lets users break down notifications on a granular scale. Some notifications will automatically be blocked based on user preferences. Say, for example, you don’t like having your work email bother you on Saturday and Sunday. Android Lollipop will make avoiding work email notifications easier than it is today by hiding them.

The biggest feature of Android Lollipop has to be its revamped interface. Google is trying to unify how all of its products look for users across different platforms. Material Design is light and airy. Buttons are more obvious and apps feel more functional. Under the hood, Android Lollipop should boost the battery life of the Moto X 2014. That’s because Google has streamlined a lot of the things going on in the background.

The Moto X 2014 Android Lollipop release notes don’t just include features all users can expect when they get the upgrade on their Android-powered smartphones. A lot of the features Android Lollipop includes were pioneered by Motorola with Moto Assist and Moto Display. After the update, Moto Display will have a setting that lets users turn on Android Lollipops’ built in Ambient Display to do much of the same work that Moto Display does. Turning on Ambient Display will mean giving up on the automatic wake gestures that Moto X 2014 users enjoy thanks to the built-in sensors on the front of the device.  Moto Assist will also integrate the aforementioned notification settings.

The process for getting the Android Lollipop upgrade on the Moto X 2014 is detailed in this document. After receiving a notification about the update from their Moto X 2014, users are to go ahead and tap the “Yes, I’m in.” button. Then they’ll need to wait until the software update has been downloaded to hit “Install now.” After the software installation and a restart they’ll have Android Lollipop. Besides waiting for the notification, users can trigger the update from the About Phone area in the Settings app. No estimate on how long the Moto X 2014 will take to download and install the update is given. That being said, Motorola is strongly encouraging users to only do the Moto X 2014 Android Lollipop upgrade over a Wi-Fi connection. That’s key because, failing to do so could blow a monthly data plan pretty quickly.

If these release notes are an accurate indication of Motorola’s upgrade plans than the Moto X 2014 will become one of the very first Android smartphones to receive an upgrade to Android Lollipop. Strictly speaking, those with a Moto X 2014 Pure Edition will get the upgrade first. That’s because those devices aren’t beholden to a mobile carrier and Motorola releases those updates to users directly. Moto X 2014 devices on AT&T and Verizon will receive the update at some point, but those carriers will want to test the update before they start letting it roll out to customers on their network.

The Moto X 2014 starts at $99 with a two-year contract. The Moto X 2014 Pure Edition is $499 directly from Motorola.
