GTA 5 Update With Online Heists is Finally Coming

Owners of GTA 5 for last generation consoles like the Xbox 360 aren’t getting new graphics on par with the Xbox One or PS4 versions anytime soon. There’s good news though, soon they’ll at least get the Online Heists missions that they were promised.

GTA 5 developer Rockstar Studios made the announcement about Heists finally coming to the Grand Theft Auto 5 in a post earlier today on its Rockstar Newswire blog. The post wasn’t even actually about Grand Theft Auto 5 as a whole though. Instead, the post focused on how many users across the world were playing Grand Theft Auto Online specifically. Grand Theft Auto Online is the massive multiplayer element that Rockstar included with every copy of GTA 5 that it sold last year.

“We know you’re all excited for more updates to come and we’ve got some really exciting stuff in the works to continue adding to, expanding and evolving the world of Grand Theft Auto Online- including the highly anticipated launch of Online Heists.” That’s great news for those looking for more to do in the massive world that is Grand Theft Auto Online.

Those who have been following developments in the game’s online universe have already heard that before. Originally, Online Heists for GTA 5’s Grand Theft Auto Online multiplayer were set for launch months ago. After revealing the new game mode, Rockstar said that it would need to take a bit longer to develop the feature.

GTA 5’s single player campaign already included Heists. There they were high-profile crimes that users could only pull off by making use of the skills that the game’s three main characters all possessed. Online Heists were to work the same way mostly.

Instead of one player taking on the role of each character participating in the heists, Grand Theft Auto Online heists would have let users put together a crew with certain skills to complete heists. Online heists will have a lot of different moving parts, but the reward is a big payoff for each Grand Theft Auto Online player who participates. Grand Theft Auto Online has an online marketplace and economy where users can buy cars, apartments, businesses and more for their character.

Rockstar isn’t ready to confirm a date for the GTA 5 update just yet, but the company says the update containing Online Heists will come to users after the launch of GTA 5 for the Xbox One and PS4. These two newer versions will launch on November 18th. That at least rules out this week and early next week for any potential GTA 5 update.

Grand Theft Auto Online seems to be doing well. In today’s post Rockstar also revealed that it saw more than 33 million users playing Grand Theft Auto Online during the month of October. It also revealed that users from over 224 countries were participating in the online game. It’s released 11 updates since introducing the game. All of those updates have been free and each has added new weapons and cars to buy. Fine tuning the experience and delivering new game modes have also been the focus of these Grand Theft Auto Online updates. The GTA 5 single player campaign has also been updated with new content and fixes.

Whereas as GTA 5 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 were about introducing players to the game world and its mechanics, GTA 5 for Xbox One and PS4 are all about refining that experience. They both include better textures and upgraded graphics. Additionally, there are more plants and visual effects throughout the game world of Los Santos. These are the only two versions of the game that support the new first-person shooter like mechanics that Rockstar showed off recently.

GTA 5 for the Xbox One and PS4 will cost $60 when they arrive on store shelves.
