Kindle Sale Offers Entry-Level Model for Just $59

Published

on

Amazon is having a pre-Christmas sale of sorts and is discounting several of its hardware products, one of which is its entry-level Kindle ereader, which is on sale for just $59.

It’s not the lowest price we’ve seen for the ereader, but it’s still a really good price, and this even allows you to get the model without Special Offers for the same price as the model with Special Offers if it weren’t on sale.

The $59 will get you the Kindle ereader with Special Offers, meaning that you’ll see advertisements here and there. The model without Special Offers (no ads) is on sale as well, priced at just $79 (the same price as the ad-filled version at regular price).

However, if you can handle the occasional ad, $59 is a fantastic price for a decent ereader, and it’s pretty much an instant buy considering you’re only paying that much dough for something that you’ll get a ton of use out of if you read a lot.

This limited-time discount is a part of a set of discounts that Amazon is offering for a limited time as we approach Christmas next week. The company’s previous-generation Kindle Fire HDX is also on sale for as low as $224 with a $125 discount, which is pretty admirable.

The WiFi-only 16GB model is priced at $224, the WiFi and LTE 16GB model with Special Offers is $324, and that same model without special offers can be had for $339. However, the cheapest $224 model on sale offers the best discount at 36%, whereas the other models on sale only offer a 28% and 27% discount, respectively.

Previously, the best deal we’ve found for the Kindle Fire HDX was $259 for the latest-generation modelearlier last month, but $224 for the previous-generation is still really good.

The Kindle Fire HDX is the newest addition to the Kindle lineup for Amazon, sporting faster internals and a higher-resolution display, as well as a revolutionary new customer support feature called MayDay, which allows you to get on the horn with an Amazon customer support rep through your Kindle Fire HDX tablet in case you’re having any troubles. It’s pretty much a two-way video chat session, but the rep can only see your screen and not you through the camera.

Amazon has never been shy about discounting its hardware products, dropping the price of its Kindle Fire tablets by $50 for Cyber Monday last year, as well as few other models about a week later, and the company even offered some great deals on their tablets this year for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

You can usually take advantage of Kindle hardware sales throughout the year, so there’s almost no reason to not wait for a good deal on a Kindle e-reader or Kindle Fire tablet, but if you’re wanting a Kindle Fire HDX, saving $125 is about the best deal you can find right now, so don’t hesitate if you’re looking for a last-minute Christmas gift for that special someone.

Of course, some of the biggest advantages of an ereader is that the battery lasts a long time. Amazon says that a single charge with its Paperwhite ereader can last up to eight weeks (based on a half hour of reading per day with wireless off and the light setting at ten). The same can’t be said for tablets, which usually only last a day or two depending on the amount of usage.

Ereaders also don’t come with any glare in bright sunlight, making them great for reading on the beach. This is thanks to the e-ink display that uses an entirely different type of screen technology than smartphones and tablets, and also uses up way less battery juice, allowing the device to last for weeks on end.
