AT&T Modio iPad Smartcase Adds LTE to WiFi-Only iPads

If you’ve always wished that your WiFi-only iPad could have LTE capabilities, wish no longer, as AT&T has announced the Modio Smartcase, which adds LTE to any WiFi-only iPad.

Users can connect to AT&T’s LTE network using the case, and the data used will be from the subscriber’s Mobile Share plan, so there’s no need to get a separate plan if you want to get such a case for your iPad, which won’t add any costs for the subscriber other than any overages fees.

Furthermore, the Modio Smartcase includes a built-in 4,600mAh battery that provides an extra 10 hours of use for your iPad, and it even includes a built-in microSD card slot that can support up to 32GB of extra storage for your Apple tablet.

The case works with the iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, and iPad mini. Unfortunately, the Modio Smartcase doesn’t have a release timeline or a price yet, but the landing page for the case is up and listed as “coming soon.”

There are a lot of features in this case, but perhaps the best feature is the ability to turn a WiFi-only iPad into an LTE model of sorts. LTE-enabled iPads cost a bit more than their WiFi-only brethrens, so this case could save a bit of money as far as upgrading to an LTE iPad model, but the cost of the case itself may be just as much as an upgrade to an LTE iPad.

However, the built-in battery and the microSD card slot are awesome bonuses for the case, but hopefully the price will be right when it eventually releases to the public.
