9 Common iOS 8.2 Problems & How to Fix Them

Published

on

The iOS 8.2 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is now available and it offers a ton of bug fixes and enhancements to Apple’s mobile devices. It also has brought iOS 8.2 problems to owners making the jump from iOS 8.1.3 and below. With iOS 8.2 problems in mind, we want to outline some of the more common issues and offer fixes for those struggling.

Last year, Apple released its brand new iOS 8 operating system for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Almost immediately, iPhone and iPad users started to gripe about iOS 8 problems. Some of them were iOS 8 related and some of them were carried over from the company’s iOS 7 and iOS 6 updates. Over the past few months, Apple’s attempted to fix many of those problems with a series of iOS 8 bug fix updates, none bigger than the update it released earlier this week.

In the months since the initial iOS 8 release, Apple’s pushed out seven iOS 8 bug fix updates including its most recent update, iOS 8.2. Apple isn’t close to finished, iOS 8.3 and iOS 8.4 are apparently in the cards before iOS 9, but for the moment iOS 8.2 reigns as Apple’s most current version of its OS and the potential savior that many iPhone and iPad users have been looking for.

iOS 8.2 is chock full of bug fixes and enhancements that tackle everything from the Mail app to Bluetooth issues to a GMT Calendar problem. iOS 8.2 is a substantial update though it’s not without its faults.

iPhone and iPad users are already complaining about iOS 8.2 problems. Many users have taken to social media and Apple’s Discussion Forums to complain about initial bugs and issues. Most of these iOS 8.2 problems appear to be isolated but that doesn’t mean that they won’t pick up pace in the future. In fact, there’s a good chance that they’ll spread as more people install iOS 8.2.

With that in mind, we want to take a look at some of the more popular iOS 8.2 problems that have popped up over the last 48 hours and some of the problems that have the potential to pop up for iOS 8.2 users in the future. With an iOS 8.3 update in beta, and a release date unknown, iPhone and iPad users will need to rely on third-party fixes for their iOS 8.2 problems.

How to Fix iOS 8.2 Installation Problems

iPhone users are complaining about iOS 8.2 installation problems where the update gets stuck during the download and installation process and fails to complete. This is a common iOS issue and one that iPhone and iPad users should be able to solve very easily.

If the iPhone or iPad gets stuck during the iOS 8.2 installation process, users will want to perform a hard reset by holding down the power button and home button at the same time for a few seconds until the device restarts. This typically gets the update’s juices flowing again. If it doesn’t continue automatically, it may simply start over. This method has worked for us, and many other users in the past, so it’s worth a shot if the iOS 8.2 installation falters.

How to Fix iOS 8.2 Battery Life Problems

iPhone and iPad users are complaining about bad iOS 8.2 battery life. Battery life problems are among the loudest complaints after major iOS and Android updates so these complaints shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Fortunately, there are number of ways to try and fix iOS 8.2 battery life if it starts going downhill. We’ve put together an extensive list of fixes for bad iOS 8.2 battery life that iPhone and iPad users will want to take a look at if and when the device starts acting up. iOS battery life problems can occur at any time so those who aren’t experiencing them now will want to keep these fixes in mind.

How to Fix iOS 8.2 Wi-Fi Problems

iOS 8.2 problems include the usual array of Wi-Fi problems. iPhone and iPad users have been complaining about assorted Wi-Fi problems for years and one thread on Apple’s discussion forums has garnered over 600,000 views since September. It’s very clear that Wi-Fi problems are an issue for iPhone and iPad users and it appears that iOS 8.2 has some problems of its own.

There are no guaranteed fixes for Wi-Fi issues though there are some things that iPhone and iPad users on iOS 8.2 can try should connectivity start going south. These fixes have been passed down from Apple’s iOS 6, iOS 7 and older iOS 8 updates and they’ve worked for many iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users dealing with connectivity problems.

The first fix is a simple one. iPhone and iPad users should try resetting the device’s network settings. This is an extremely easy process though it could take a couple of minutes to complete. Those experiencing Wi-Fi issues will want to set aside some time to ensure that the process goes as smoothly as possible. To do this, open up the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and head to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Users will need the passcode and a few minutes of time because the phone or tablet is going to reboot itself after the process completes. Users will also want to track down commonly used Wi-Fi passwords because this process is going to erase Wi-Fi passwords.

If that fix doesn’t work, take a look at some of these other potential Wi-Fi fixes. We also recommend rebooting your router and or modem to see if that dislodges the problem. It’s also worth updating the router’s firmware. This process is going to differ based on make and model so iPhone and iPad users will want to consult company websites for help.

How to Fix iOS 8.2 Cellular Data Problems

iOS 8.2 users are also complaining about cellular data issues. The update has apparently wrecked reception on some devices. This is a common iOS problem, especially right after a release.

iPhone and iPad users experiencing cellular data problems should first try restarting the iPhone or iPad. This has worked for us in the past. If that simple fix doesn’t work, try toggling cellular data on and off. This also has also worked for many people before. To do that, Cellular > Cellular Data > Toggle Off. It’s a quick process and one that could return things to normal assuming connectivity isn’t down in the area.

Finally, if none of that works, try flipping Airplane Mode on, waiting 30 seconds, and then flipping it off. This, like the other fixes, has worked to alleviate cellular data problems in the past. If nothing works, contact the device’s service provider.

How to Fix iOS 8.2 Bluetooth Problems

iOS 8 has been plagued by Bluetooth problems and lo and behold, iOS 8.2 users are running into Bluetooth issues of their own. There’s no guaranteed fix for Bluetooth problems though there are some things iOS 8.2 users can try if Bluetooth starts acting up.

iPhone and iPad users have singled out “Reset All Settings” as a solid fix. It hasn’t worked for everyone but there are a ton of people that are claiming success after trying it on their iPhone. It could also work for the iPad and iPod touch.

To Reset All Settings on the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, open up the device and head to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. This is going to take a bit of time and users will lose all saved settings but the pay off is that it seems to fix problems for a number of iOS 8 users.

We also recommend resetting Bluetooth in the car if a device is failing to pair with the connection in the car. iPhone and iPad users will need to consult the car manual to do this as the process is going to vary based on make and model. Once Bluetooth is reset, try reconnecting the device to the car.

How to Fix iOS 8.2 App Issues

As we’ve noted in our early iOS 8.2 reviews for iPhone and iPad, app performance is excellent on our devices after the iOS 8.2 release. That said, there’s always a chance that some users will encounter problems with applications immediately after installing iOS 8.2 or weeks down the road. iPhone and iPad users can’t rely on iOS updates for app fixes. Instead, users will need to rely on third-party developers (the makers of the app) and some useful changes to bad habits.

First, make sure applications on the iPhone or iPad are updated. Bug fixes and app updates with support for iOS 8 have been trickling out since launch. iPhone and iPad users who are forgetful or lazy will want to turn on automatic App Store updates because it will keep apps automatically behind the scenes. Auto updates will ensure that they are always on the latest version with the latest bug fixes. To do that, head into Settings > iTunes & App Store > Toggle Updates on.

If that doesn’t work, try reinstalling the application. This has worked for some users in the past. If the app is still acting up, iOS 8.2 users will want to contact the developer of the application and relay the bug or bugs plaguing the software. Bringing these bugs to light could prompt developers to start paying attention and actively fix the bug in an upcoming update.

How to Improve iOS 8.2 Performance

While iOS 8.2 has been performing well on our iPhones and iPads, some users are complaining about a drop in performance after making the move to Apple’s new software. These performance drops typically affect owners of older devices though we’ve seen some iPhone 6 users complaining in the hours after the iOS 8.2 release. Fortunately, there are ways for users to try and get the device back to where it was before.

When Apple’s iOS 8.0 update first came out, we outlined a number of different strategies including reducing animations and pretty effects, resetting settings, or restoring back to factory settings. These fixes still apply today, months after the iOS 8 update’s release. They may not work for everyone but they are certainly worth a shot if performance drags after iOS 8.2 arrives.

How to Fix iOS 8.2 iMessage Problems

It appears that iOS 8.2 has broken Messages for some iPhone users. Fortunately, there are some fixes worth trying if iMessage isn’t playing nicely with Apple’s new software.

The first thing to try is toggling iMessage off and on. If that doesn’t work, try rebooting the phone or tablet. If neither of those work, it’s time to reset the device’s network settings.

To do that, head into Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. The iPad or iPhone will reboot, and while the stored Wi-Fi networks will be lost, reentering a Wi-Fi password is a small price to pay for working iMessages.

How to Fix iOS 8.2 Problems If Nothing Else Works

If these fixes for iOS 8.2 problems don’t work, we have a few recommendations. Users can currently downgrade to iOS 8.1.3 to see if that helps. The downgrade process won’t last forever and Apple will eventually plug it up.

If that doesn’t work, take the iPhone or iPad to a Genius Bar at the local Apple Store. They can help diagnose the problem and potentially offer a new device if still under warranty.

Those that can’t or don’t want to take the device to the Apple Store will want to consider performing a factory reset. Factory resets will wipe the device clean, so it’s an option that we recommend only to those that can’t find a temporary or permanent fix.

To do that, choose Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Again, this will wipe everything from the iPhone or iPad, so make a back up before doing this. Again, setting all of this up will be very time consuming, but it may be the fastest way to fix bad iOS 8.2 problems on the iPhone or iPad.

Well, I can’t use either iMessage or FaceTime. I can’t activate it as it reads an error of activation with SMS or internet connection problems, what is not true at all. Internet works properly and I’ve done a network reset to see if the activation works but nothing happened. I have iOS 8.2.
