iPhone 6S Rumors: 5 Things to Know in April

Published

on

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are stealing the spotlight, and the LG G4 is coming soon, but there is still at least one major phone due in 2015. The iPhone 6s rumors continue to detail some of what we could see in an iPhone 6s release later this year and paint a picture of what Apple might bring to the table to compete with these Android powerhouses.

Here are the most interesting iPhone 6s rumors of the last month and early 2015. Don’t worry, you still have months of waiting for a new upgrade, and for many people it might be a little too early to start waiting for the iPhone 6s. But, we’ve already talked to several regular users who are holding out for the new iPhone in 2015 before they upgrade.

Signs still point to an iPhone 6s and or iPhone 6s Plus this year, but there is also talk of a new screen size option that would be music to the ears of many iPhone 5 owners and iPhone 5s owners. The “S” iPhone models typically bring refinements, but multiple rumors point to a new screen size that might share the same design or take cues from the iPhone 5c.

Here are 5 iPhone 6s rumors and expectations that potential buyers and upgraders need to know about in April 2015. If you are waiting to buy the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, this is the essential information we’ve learned in the last month.

No Summer iPhone 6s Release Date

Apple just confirmed their next event for June 8th in San Francisco. Every year at this summer event there is hype for an iPhone release and then disappointment. We see this on social media all the time from potential iPhone buyers who are eager for the latest iPhone.

Don't expect an iPhone 6s release date announcement at WWDC.

Don’t expect an iPhone 6s release date announcement at WWDC.

With confirmation of WWDC 2015 dates in June this cycle will start over. In the announcement Apple talked about the future of iOS and OS X, but did not talk about hardware. Yes, we’ve seen an iPhone at this event, but the current timeline suggests Apple will not use WWDC 2015 to announce the iPhone 6s release date, but instead to show off the iOS 9 upgrade that will come to many current iPhones and ship on a new 2015 iPhone in the fall.

iPhone 6s Display Tech

Apple’s new Force Touch technology can determine the action a user wants to perform based on the strength of a tap. Apple builds this into the Apple Watch, the new MacBook and the MacBook Pro Retina. One iPhone 6s rumor indicates this will appear on the iPhone 6s display and another suggests it will be an iPhone 6s Plus exclusive feature.

The video above highlights Force Touch actions inside OS X and shows how the new hard press works. Now, think about how you use the iPhone and how nice it would be for the iPhone 6s to know that you want a secondary tap. This could make it easier to use many apps where you want to see information with a hard tap instead of multiple taps.

iPhone 6s Camera Upgrades

We heard about iPhone 6s camera upgrades earlier this year and with a major purchase we may know more about what Apple could do to deliver better iPhone cameras. The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple acquired LinX, an Israeli Camera technology company that develops cameras for smartphones.

While there are some cool features that this tech can enable like automatic background removal and 3D Object modeling, the really exciting part is that this could dramatically improve the quality of iPhone photos. LinX previously described the camera technology as enabling better low light performance, faster exposure and said that it can deliver the same image quality as a big DSLR camera.

4-inch iPhone 6s or iPhone 6c

An ongoing 2015 iPhone rumor is that Apple will bring back the 4-inch screen for a new iPhone. This may be an iPhone 6c model that includes a 4-inch display, iPhone 6 specs and a plastic iPhone 5c-like body.

Rumors continue to swirl around a 4-inch iPhone 6 inside a iPhone 6c plastic body.

We first heard this rumor in late 2014 and in late March 2015 DigiTimes reported on this rumor as well. The publication has a spotty track record, but it does pass on industry chatter that may eventually appear in the form of a final product.

Future Supplier shared a photo of what they claim is an iPhone 6c case. This is an updated iPhone 5c housing that includes a new flash in the same pill shape as the iPhone 6, but the case is the same size as the iPhone 5s.

iPhone 6s Specs & Performance

In a new report outlining a special division within Samsung that will focus on developing displays for Apple Bloomberg adds to the rumors that Samsung will deliver the new iPhone processor for 2015. This will likely be the Apple A9 processor, which will likely include more power than the iPhone 6 and early reports indicate Apple will boost the RAM from 1GB to 2GB.

11 iPhone 6s Features We Want in 2015

Wireless Charging

Wireless Charging

It would be amazing to finally get wireless charging in the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus so that charging would no longer require a Lightning cable. There are adapters and cases to add wireless charging to the iPhone, but the real benefit comes from integrated wireless charging.

Yes, there is still a need for a cable connected to power, but you would no longer need to plug the iPhone in, just set it on a charging mat on your nightstand, on a coffee table at Starbucks or in a wireless charging dock in your car that can deliver power without the need to fumble with a cable.

The wireless charging iPhone 6s feature is all about the convenience of using the iPhone without a cable tethered to it -- and charging remains the only reason you absolutely need a cable with the iPhone.
