We haven’t yet seen a single piece of in-game footage from Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Activision’s upcoming entry in the long-running first-person shooter franchise. That being said, we do know that technology enhanced super soldiers that owe their existence to wearables and small technology like the Apple Watch will play a big part in the story of the game, and that comes from an all-new Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 trailer now available on video website YouTube.

Get ready for a fall Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 release date.

The new Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 trailer was posted to Sony’s PlayStation YouTube profile yesterday, where it has managed to rack up 300,000 views already. The trailer reveals next to nothing about the game’s technical aspects. Instead, the trailer is a meant as a timeline. It’s that timeline that strongly hits at Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s campaign being heavily focused on technology enhanced soldiers.

This timeline doesn’t mark important happenings in Call of Duty history. Instead, it appears to reveal the back story for this single game’s campaign. In the almost three-minute video we see the excitement that surrounds human augmentation and limb replacement. At first the talk is theoretical, but soon scientists have a breakthrough. Instead of just robotic limbs, people are now ok with “fusing technology with their bodies.” We see a lot of the good human augmentation can bring. Things seem to be going great, but that’s really just the trailer manipulating you.

It’s no coincidence that Activision is releasing this trailer on the day before Apple Watch is going on sale. The Apple Watch is expected to be the first piece of wearable technology generally embraced.

Before long, athletes with augmentations are being allowed to compete with regular athletes. In the distance you see regular humans with no changes, looking disappointed that the rest of the world doesn’t think they were cheated. Basketball players are now wearing designer eye-enhancements. We see a late night host comment on newer technology that allows users to add digital connections directly to their brain. Next there’s a leaker obviously inspired by real-life leaker Eric Snowden. According to this leaker, the government is using cybernetic enhancements for super soldiers and other things it doesn’t want the public knowing about.

As fighting breaks out between authorities and protesters we see what could be one of these enhanced soldiers. The Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 trailer ends there, teasing a full world premiere on April 26th, this upcoming Sunday.

So far, the tidbits contained in this video are all the real Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 information we have. Clearly embeddable technology will have a heavy role in this game, otherwise it’d make no sense to tease the world premiere with background on the enhanced solider problem. What’s more, it appears that the campaign will play off our fears of biotechnology being used as a play thing and advantage for the privilege.

The real question will be how these elements will feature into the game play. It could be that players are an enhanced soldier secretly assigned to take down rogue agents in whatever organization greenlight enhanced soldiers in the first place. It could be that the player is simply an unenhanced soldier trying to topple this program from within. It could even be that players are a part of the program themselves and use their powers to combat the riots and rising threat slowly engulfing the world over such a hot-button issue.

What we do know is that we’ll likely be seeing more of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 very soon. Besides Sunday’s premiere event, the game is expected to be available at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo during Activision’s annual briefing. Activision has shown of games in the franchise there for years.

Presumably, we can expect a Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 release around November, but that’s only if Activision doesn’t break with tradition and follows the same release pattern as it normally does. A basic copy of the game should cost $60 for whatever platforms it’s available on.
