5 Things to Know Now About the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Release

As we push into the summer, we’ve been taking a deep dive into some of the most important Fallout 4 release details for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Today, we want to revisit the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition release and tell you about a few things you need to know now about its arrival.

In June, Bethesda finally confirmed Fallout 4 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The game had been rumored for several years and the company delighted fans of the series with a huge showcase at E3 2015 in Los Angeles. The event was Bethesda’s first big presentation at the popular show.

There, Bethesda’s Todd Howard outlined many of the game’s key details. The fact that it would be released for current-gen consoles in November and not the Xbox 360 or PS3. The fact that it would be set in Boston. The fact that it would be released on November 10th. And the fact that it would come with a special collectors edition that includes a real-life Pip Boy.

The Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition is a $120 Fallout 4 bundle that comes packed with a copy of Fallout 4, a Pip Boy that works in conjunction with a smartphone, a poster, a Pip Boy Pocket Guide, and more. It was an exciting announcement, so exciting in fact, that it sold out almost immediately.

Bethesda’s Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition is difficult to find ahead of its release date. It’s difficult but it’s not impossible. We continue to see new details emerge and today we want to take an updated look at what we think prospective Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition buyers need to know about its upcoming release.

It’s Not Coming Back

We, and Bethesda, continue to get questions about the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition release. One question that we, and Bethesda, continue to get is about the bundles’s stock and whether or not the company will produce more between now and November’s release.

We’ve seen tons and tons of people plead with Bethesda to create more Pip Boy Edition stock but sadly, nothing has changed since Bethesda’s original announcement. The company hasn’t budged and it continues to tell fans of the Fallout series and Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition buyers that it will not be making more. Here are a few of the latest details from Bethesda’s Pete Hines.

So, at this point, it’s safe to assume that the stock that’s out there is the stock that will always be out there. Do not expect the company to reverse its stance here. While it would be nice to see the company accommodate those who missed out on a pre-order, even Bethesda has limits.

It’s Difficult to Find, Not Impossible to Find

Bethesda won’t be making any more Pip Boy Editions but that doesn’t mean that the game is impossible to find. In fact, there are two ways of acquiring the official Pip Boy Edition right now.

The first and most appealing method is to buy it from a retailer for $120. Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop haven’t shown any signs of life in the past few weeks. Walmart has though. A few days ago, the retailer offered one copy of Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition. It’s not much but it’s an important detail nonetheless.

It’s important because it means that Walmart, or another retailer, could offer another copy (or copies) of the game ahead of November’s release. Someone somewhere might decide to cancel a pre-order ahead of the game’s release so there’s always a chance that something will pop up. You just need to keep your eye out.

If you live outside of the United States, you’re going to have much better luck, especially if you live in France or Germany. Amazon in France and Germany continues to pump out Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition stock. Other regions and retailers in Europe are far more sporadic. Still, Amazon France and Amazon Germany should instill some hope of finding the game for its regular price.

Expensive Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition

If you aren’t willing to monitor stock through official avenues, you can buy the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition another way. It’s just going to cost you.

There are Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition resellers on sites like eBay and Craigslist. Most of these listings are probably going to be legit ways to buy the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition. Problem is, you’re going to be hard pressed to find someone willing to give the game up for $120.

The listings that we’ve seen as of late are all around the $300 price point. We’ve seen some that are a little cheaper and some that are more expensive but that seems to be where the market is at right now. Obviously that’s not ideal but it’s where we’re at right now.

It’s a difficult market to predict but our best guess is that we’ll see some prices drop as we hit a lull ahead of release, probably in September/October, before we see prices jump as interest in the game grows right before its release date. Just a guess.

The fact that it’s no longer being made should keep the price relatively high so if you can’t find it through a retailer or someone willing to sell at its regular price point, be prepared to shell out.

You Need to Do Your Homework

If you are planning to buy the game, you need to do some research, especially if you’re planning to buy through a reseller like eBay.

If you want to buy it through an official avenue, you’re going to need to keep an eye on Now In Stock. Set up alerts so that you know right when stock returns.

If you want to try and import the game, you’re going to need to look into how that would work. Each retailer is going to be a little different some may not ship to far away lands. There also might be some customs fees attached so you’ll really need to dig in to see how much it will cost vs. buying on eBay or Craigslist.

If you are planning to buy through Craigslist or eBay, know that you need to be extremely careful. Read listings very carefully so that you don’t get ripped off. Since people don’t have access to the physical game yet, they’re going to be selling you a receipt. Make sure it’s a legit receipt.

If you’re buying on eBay, ensure that the person you’re buying from has a good rating. If you’re buying on Craigslist, you’ll want to meet up in person to make sure what they’re selling is legit and not some rip off. Make sure you open up the metal case of the game before walking away.

We’ll almost certainly hear some horror stories later this year so know that a little research before buying the game will go a long way.

Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition Alternatives

Bethesda’s Pip Boy looks great but remember, there are a number of other Pip Boy alternatives out there and they’re probably going to be cheaper than buying the game off Craigslist or eBay.

We’ve put together a list of solid alternatives and fortunately for you, the prices for these have remained steady as we’ve pushed into the summer.

These are the official Pip Boy but some of them actually look better than Bethesda’s. They’re worth a look if you want to use a smartphone with a Pip Boy to play Fallout 4. Just make sure to make sure that they’re going to fit your smartphone.

Like Bethesda’s version, they only fit certain devices.

Xbox One Fallout 4 Deals

In the buildup to the Fallout 4 release date in November, we've seen several Fallout 4 deals emerge. We haven't seen any massive price cuts (and we probably won't until after the game's release) but we've still seen some solid Xbox One Fallout 4 deals emerge including a new one from Best Buy. Best Buy is still offering the usual 20% discount to those who are a part of its Gamers Club Unlocked program. That knocks the price down to $48 for those that aren't good at math. The company is offering another Fallout 4 deal though. Best Buy is now offering $10 in rewards to My Best Buy members who pre-order Fallout 4 for Xbox One. It's not a price cut but it's a solid deal for those who do a lot of shopping at Best Buy.  Of course, Best Buy isn't the only one offering a deal on Fallout 4. Amazon is offering $7 off to Amazon Prime members. That drops the price down to $57 including tax. It's not a huge deal but it's a deal nonetheless.  Microsoft is also offering a Fallout 4 deal that will net you a $10 Xbox gift card digital code within 10 days of the game's release. This will be perfect if you're planning to buy a ton of new Xbox One titles during the holiday season.
