It’s a pretty big haul for $99 and that’s why the game has been extremely difficult to find in the weeks leading up to the September 1st release date.

Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition Stock Issues

Unfortunately, the Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition for PS4 and Xbox One is extremely hard to find ahead of its release in September.

Retailers like Amazon, GameStop and Walmart are, as of right now, completely sold out of the game and it’s not clear if Konami will be making any more copies ahead of the release. 

Amazon claims that the game is “Currently Unavailable” and says that it doesn’t “know when or if this item will be back in stock.” This doesn’t bode well for those trying to find the game before of September 1st.

How to Find a Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition

Fortunately, there are some ways to acquire the Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition ahead of its release date. The first option is to track it through a site like NowInStock. NowInStock tracks online inventory and it can alert you to stock when it becomes available, if it becomes available.

Over the past week or so, we’ve seen Walmart release sporadic Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition stock. The latest release actually came this morning though it sold out very quickly. We recommend keeping an eye out there and setting up notifications so that you’re alerted whenever a retailer starts offering it again.

You can also buy the special edition through resellers like eBay and Craigslist though you’ll have to be willing to pay more than the $99 admission price. Resellers on eBay are currently offering the game in the $150 range though that price could fluctuate as we get closer and closer to the release.

Since we’re in the pre-release stage, make sure that the seller has all of the proper documentation before committing your money. We’re hopeful that there won’t be any scams but you should be vigilant just in case.

Finally, it’s worth mentioning that retailers are selling a Metal Gear Solid 5 Collector’s Edition Strategy Guide. This isn’t the bundle but it’s a collectors edition guide that will provide you with useful information if and when you decide to start playing Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

GameStop is selling it for $35 but Amazon is actually selling it for much cheaper, $22.24 for the hardcover and $14.02 for the paperback version. While this guide doesn’t come with a game, it does come with:

If you still haven't pre-ordered a copy of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and you own an Xbox, know that Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes is available for free for Xbox Live Gold Members. The game is the first part of the Metal Gear Solid 5 series and if you're not sure about a Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain pre-order, it might be worth a download.  There are also a number of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain deals floating around ahead of the game's release date.  Best Buy is offering two deals. One is for My Best Buy members and it nets them $10 in Best Buy Rewards if you pre-order the game. The retailer is also offering the game to those in the Gamers Club Unlocked program. Those in GCU can get the game for $48.  Microsoft's also offering a deal that will give pre-orderers a $10 Xbox gift card digital code within 10 days after the game's release on September 1st.  NVIDIA is also offering a free copy of the PC Metal Gear Solid 5 if you purchase a qualifying graphics card. In order to qualify, you'll need to pick up a a GeForce GTX 980 Ti, 980, 970, or 960 GPU or 980/970M notebook. Those deals are static. We've also seen some other deals floating around (including one recent one at Dell) that knocked the price down. If you're not looking to pay full price, you'll want to keep your eyes peeled for deals as we get closer to the release date.
