iPhone 6s Price: 5 Things to Know Right Now

Published

on

With an iPhone 6s launch date just days away, buyers are starting to gear up for the release of Apple’s new iPhones. We’ve seen a number of key details emerge ahead of launch including the all-important iPhone 6s price. Here, we take a look at everything you need to know about how much the iPhone 6s will cost.

For weeks, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus rumors have swirled above our heads teasing us with tales of the iPhone 6s specs, iPhone 6s release date and more. The iPhone 6s is still very much a rumored smartphone but that should change next week.

On September 9th, Apple will take the stage at Bill Graham Auditorium in San Francisco to announce something. Rumor has it, it will be multiple somethings.

iPhone-6s-4

The company is expected to deliver an iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, an iOS 9 release date, Apple TV 4, a 12-inch iPad Pro, and a new iPad mini 4. The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be the two stars but they should have a solid supporting cast.

The iPhone 6s launch date is all but confirmed for September 9th and the iPhone 6s release date is all but confirmed for September 18th. September 18th or not, there’s a good chance both of these devices will go on sale soon, permanently altering Apple’s iPhone lineup in the process.

How Much Will the iPhone 6s Cost

With an iPhone 6s release date close, we want to take a look at the iPhone 6s price and tell you exactly how much the iPhone 6s will cost when it arrives on shelves later this year. Here’s what to expect if you’re planning to buy either one of the new iPhones.

iPhone 6s Price

Apple hasn’t confirmed the iPhone 6s price and it won’t until it announces the new 4.7-inch model on stage. That said, we have a pretty solid read on how much the iPhone 6s will cost those who buy it new from Apple.

The iPhone 6s will reportedly take over the iPhone 6’s $199.99 on-contract price point. This is where Apple’s kept its base iPhone model for a number of years and it looks like we’ll see more of the same from the new iPhone.

Here’s how much the iPhone 6s will probably cost when it goes on sale:

  • 16GB iPhone 6s – $199.99 on-contract/$650 off-contract
  • 32GB iPhone 6s – $299.99 on-contract/$750 off-contract
  • 128GB iPhone 6s – $399.99 on-contract/$850 off-contract

There are a few things to keep in mind. One, the iPhone 6s will reportedly come with a 16GB base, not a 32GB base. And two, not everyone is going to be selling the iPhone 6s on-contract.

Verizon doesn’t sell new iPhones on two year-contract and the only way you’ll be able to buy the AT&T iPhone 6s on-contract is through AT&T. T-Mobile was the catalyst for these changes and they’re going to impact the way you buy Apple’s new iPhone 6s.

iPhone 6s Plus Price

Apple’s iPhone 6s Plus price is expected to mirror the iPhone 6 Plus’. So if you want the bigger screen, you’re going to have to shell out some extra cash. The iPhone 6 Plus is $100 more expensive than the smaller iPhone 6.

iPhone-6s-5

Here’s how much the iPhone 6s Plus will cost:

  • 16GB iPhone 6s Plus – $299.99 on-contract/$750 off-contract
  • 32GB iPhone 6s Plus – $399.99 on-contract/$850 off-contract
  • 128GB iPhone 6s Plus – $499.99 on-contract/$950 off-contract

Like the smaller model, the iPhone 6s Plus is rumored to have a 16GB base, not a 32GB base, so you’ll really want to dig in before launch and decide how much storage space you’ll need. We’re not huge fans of the 16GB iPhone but maybe it will suit you just fine.

iPhone 6s Deals

If you’re not looking to pay full price for the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, you have some options.

We’ll almost certainly see carriers like Verizon offer trade-in deals that help make the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus a little more affordable. The amount you get for your old phone will depend on the phone and the condition that it’s in.

iPhone-6s-2

If you don’t want to trade your old iPhone into a carrier, you can look into trading it in at a site like Gazelle or NextWorth. You might want to think about doing that now because we expect the price of older iPhones to plummet in the weeks after the iPhone 6s release.

If you don’t have a trade-in, you’re going to have to look around for an iPhone 6s deal. We typically don’t see a ton of immediate iPhone price cuts so straight iPhone 6s deals should scarce. At least until Black Friday in November.

iPhone 6 Price

If you decide that you don’t want the iPhone 6s, you’ll probably be able to score an iPhone 6 for a lot less than its current price point.

Apple will reportedly be dropping the iPhone 6 price by $100 and we expect other retailers to follow suit in the weeks after the iPhone 6s release. With the iPhone 6 set to take over the iPhone 5s’ price point, here’s how much you’ll have to pay for the iPhone 6 in September:

  • 16GB iPhone 6 – $99.99 on-contract/$550 off-contract
  • 32GB iPhone 6 – $199.99 on-contract/$650 off-contract
  • 128GB iPhone 6 – $299.99 on-contract/$750 off-contract

We’re still not sure if Apple will keep all three storage options in stock. But this is what it should look like if it does opt for all three.

Retailers and carriers will also likely drop the iPhone 6 price so you’ll want to shop around before committing to one place or another.

iPhone 6 Plus Price

Same goes for the iPhone 6 Plus price. It’s expected to become a lot more affordable once the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus come around. Like the iPhone 6s, it’s expected to drop by $100.

  • 16GB iPhone 6 Plus – $199.99 on-contract/$650 off-contract
  • 32GB iPhone 6 Plus – $299.99 on-contract/$750 off-contract
  • 128GB iPhone 6 Plus – $399.99 on-contract/$850 off-contract

Again, we don’t know which models Apple and its partners will keep around and there’s a chance that it will kill one of them off.

iPhone 5s

And if you’re looking for something else entirely, know that you probably won’t have to pay a cent for the iPhone 5s on-contract.

It’s expected to drop to the free-on-contract price point. Its off-contract price should also drop by at least a $100 as Apple positions it as a budget alternative to the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 and top budget Android phones.
