Which Halo 5 Guardians Edition Should You Pre-Order?

Published

Successfully navigating fall gaming season is sort of like trying to thread a needle. There’s so much that you have to account for. Even the most basic of games comes with extra downloadable content that only those that pre-order can get their hands on free of charge. There are season passes to consider and multiple versions to sort through. The task is even more tedious when you’re looking into Halo 5: Guardians pre-orders.

Halo 5: Guardians is this year’s biggest launch for the Xbox One. It’s excusive to the console, meaning gamers won’t get to play it anywhere else. So closely are the fates of Halo 5: Guardians and Xbox One intertwined that Microsoft has saw fit to inundate the gaming space with exclusive extras and different versions designed to give anyone who wants to play an on ramp to the franchise.

Here's what you need to know about Halo 5.

Here’s what you need to know about the different Halo 5: Guardians Editions coming later this October. This information should allow you to place a Halo 5 pre-order for the extras you want now or at least decide if you’re better off waiting until the Halo 5 release day on October 27th to pick up a copy.

Halo 5: Guardians Pre-Order Extras

Amazon

The Halo 5 pre-order extras start with Amazon. The retailer says that it’ll ship Halo 5: Guardians to shoppers in time enough to arrive on release day. Theoretically, this means that users will miss the midnight launch festivities, but have their physical copy of the game in time to start the campaign or experience the multiplayer on release night.

Anyone who pre-orders a copy of Halo 5 at Amazon gets a Projection SMG gun with a Long Barrel. The retailer’s pre-order extras also include a Saturnine Visor. Both items are exclusive for use in the game’s multiplayer and will arrive in code form after Amazon has shipped the physical game itself.

Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart, the world’s largest physical retailer, is doing something a bit unorthodox. Users still get their Halo 5: Guardians pre-order on release day, but they don’t get a code to unlock any extras inside the game. Instead, Wal-Mart is handing out $4.99 codes to its VUDU video service with every pre-order.

Microsoft Store

The Microsoft Store is doing a lot for early buyers. Pre-ordering any copy of Halo 5: Guardians gets shoppers there a $10 Xbox Gift card to use for anything in the Xbox Store. Shoppers also get a Recon Assault Rifle with an Energy Bayonet and a Lagrange Assault Rifle Weapon Skin. Buyers should get their copy on release day too.

GameStop

Pre-ordering a copy of Halo 5: Guardians from GameStop is the only way to get Hunter Class Armor and Helmet that Spartan Jameson Locke wears in the game’s campaign. GameStop is also giving away codes for a Rampant Visor and Emblem, a Bloodthirst Battle Rifle Weapon Skin and the Sentinel Battle Rifle. Codes for these items will come on shoppers receipts if they make their pre-order in store.

Best Buy

Best Buy is giving users a code for the Longshot Assault Rifle with Recoil Compensator and Athlon Iccus Armor when they pre-order Halo 5: Guardians. In edition to that, it’s giving My Best Buy members $10 in gift certificates and My gamers Club Unlocked member another $10 in gift certificates. Shoppers save 20% off the game too.

Remember to pre-order at the right place to get the in-game extras that you want as a reward. All that being said, it’s hard to imagine that 343 Industries won’t make all of these extras available for purchase through the game’s REQ System. The REQ System lets players earn credits for doing things. Players redeem those credits for new customization options and add-ons.

Halo 5: Guardians Edition Breakdown

Besides the pre-order bonuses, shoppers should take into account all the different editions of Halo 5: Guardians Microsoft has coming. Theoretically, it’s a good idea to start with this decision first and then pick a retailer. Gotta Be Mobile broke down each edition of Halo 5 this summer, but Microsoft has added a new wrinkle to the line-up.
