We’ve run the tests and crunched the numbers; here’s a short list of some of our favorite options for the best iPhone 6s battery case you can buy. In addition to getting the best bang for your buck, we’ve tried to include options with different features – like the ability to slide the battery portion of the case off when you don’t need it.

When deciding which one is the best iPhone 6s battery case for you needs, think about what features are most important to you. Do you need more power above anything else, or do you want something with a smaller battery that doesn’t double the thickness of your phone? Would you prefer a removable battery, or do you want a case that is super rugged, to help protect against drops?

One thing to look out for are cases designed with the iPhone 6, in mind, not the iPhone 6s.  What might make for the best iPhone 6 battery case won’t always work with the iPhone 6s, thanks to the new iPhone’s increased thickness (blame 3D Touch for that).

While many cases for the older model will work with the iPhone 6s, some are simply too tight (even Apple’s leather cases don’t really work with the new iPhones, at least for the Plus-sized version).

Both the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have smaller batteries than the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, respectively.  While the batteries are only a few percent smaller in the newer phones (the iPhone 6s has ~ 5% smaller battery than the iPhone 6), the iPhone 6s generally meets or exceeds last year’s time on battery – still, if you’re a person that uses the iPhone with a lot of display-on time (that is, time when the display is actively on) you might find that you need a little extra juice to get you through the day.

A few last things to be aware of before buying a new iPhone 6s battery case – most cases would block some of the audio from the external speakers and microphone. Most of the time, it isn’t too noticeable, but it’s something to be aware of. Additionally, most cases require using an audio jack extender in order for wired headphones to reach the iPhone’s built-in audio jack. Finally, on the plus side, these sorts of cases charge via the Lightning port – and give you a micro-usb plug on the outside. That means you can find high-quality micro-usb cables for cheap, or use one of the likely several you already have lying around the house, instead of trying to find a deal on one of Apple’s expensive versions.

Best iPhone 6s Battery Case: Anker Ultra Slim Extended Battery Case

Our top pick for the best iPhone 6s battery case is the Anker Ultra Slim Extended Battery Case. Coming in at just $40 on Amazon, this case provides one of the absolute best bangs for the buck. The case also offers compatibility with both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6s, according to the manufacturer. 

The Ultra Slim packs in a 2850mAh battery, which is ~ 1.7x the battery included in the iPhone 6s. Anker promises an extra 17 hours of web browsing on top of the iPhone 6s’ already admirable battery life. One of the thinner models of battery case, Anker’s Ultra Slim adds 6mm of thickness and 82g to the weight of the iPhone.

Runner-up: Anker Premium Extended Battery Case

A close runner-up to the Anker Ultra Slim Battery Case, the $50 Anker Premium Extended Battery Case pads the battery life just a bit more than its slimmer sibling, offering an extra 18 hours of 3G web browsing with its 3100mAh battery.

This case adds 7.4 mm and 99g to the iPhone 6s, which roughly doubles the thickness and adds seventy percent to the phone’s weight. Both Anker cases require an audio jack extender, but it does come packaged with the phone.

Runner-up: Mophie Juice Pack Reserve for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s

Mophie is one of the better known brands in the charger case product space, and for good reason – they’ve been there since the beginning. They’re also known for being pretty expensive, which is what makes their new Mophie Juice Pack Reserve for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s so attractive – because it’s much more affordable.

Coming in at less than $60 on Amazon, this Mophie isn’t just about the cheap prices. In our review, we found that the Mophie can add extended the battery life of an iPhone 6s by 60%. Combined with the fact that this is the thinnest battery case that Mophie sells, we felt compelled to give it an editor’s choice.

Runner-up: Incipio Off-Grid Express Battery Case

The Incipio offGRID Express Battery Case for iPhone 6s nets you a 3000mAh battery for just $45. In at this Inroduced at this year’s CES, we found it to live up to its manufacturer’s claims in our review.

Installation of the Incipio is slightly more complicated than with other cases, as requires sliding your phone into the battery portion of the case, and then snapping a bumper around it. This part can be frustrating to install; while it’s not a big deal if you’re the sort of person who will always leave the iPhone 6s in its battery case, you might think twice if you plan on taking it in and out every so often.

Best Removable iPhone 6s Battery Case: Jackery Leaf iPhone 6s Battery Case

I was extremely pleased with the Jackery Leaf for the iPhone 5/5S, and the company has continued the line with the Jackery Leaf for iPhone 6s. The Jackery Leaf comes in at $39.99 and promises to fully charge your iPhone 1.2 times with its built-in, 3200mAh battery.

One of the best features of the Jackery Leaf is the nature of its dual-case construction. If you’re going to be near a plug most of the day, and don’t need the additional battery life, you can leave the battery portion of the case behind by sliding out your iPhone 6s. Don’t worry; a slim case stays with the iPhone, protecting it from day-to-day damage. If you’re going out and need to bring the battery along, you can slide the phone right back in.

Runner-up: Tylt Energi Sliding Power Case

We reviewed the Tylt Energi Sliding Power Case back in July and liked its special features, such as the way it automatically cuts power and turns off when the iPhone is fully charged – letting you save a few extra minutes of backup battery life.

Coming in at $80, the Tylt Energi slider gives you an extra 3200mAh battery, which is similar to the other models in this segment. It also lets you charge the iPhone first when you plug the case in, which helps make sure your iPhone always has the most charge, regardless of whether the battery case has been charged yet

Best Wireless iPhone 6s Battery Case: Incipio GHOST Qi Wireless Charging Battery Case

A recent addition to the Incipio line up, the Incipio GHOST Qi wireless charging battery case brings an oft-requested feature to the iPhone 6s: wireless charging. Inside is a 2100mAh battery, which is significantly smaller than other models we’ve looked at; Incipio says that the GHOST Qi “nearly doubles” your iPhone battery life with an additional 11 hours of talk time.

What really sets this case apart is the ability to charge using any wireless charger compatible with the Qi wireless power standard. Using an inductive coil built into the back of the case, the Incipio GHOST Qi will charge both case and iPhone simultaneously simply by sitting on a pad – no cords or cables necessary. If you’ve come from Android and miss this high-tech feature, the GHOST Qi might be exactly what you need.

Unfortunately, convenience has a downside: while our other battery cases have been available for sometime and have seen extensive price drops on Amazon and other retailers, the GHOST Qi comes in at $100; combined with the smaller interior battery, a necessity to fit in the Qi wireless tech, that stings.
