A copy of No Man's Sky leaked early to Redditor Daymeeuhn, who shares a lot of information about the game, including spoilers in a lengthy Reddit thread. 

In this he made it to the center of the galaxy faster than expected -- in just 30 hours. While he has not done all the major events in the game, he was able to make it to the center of the galaxy while exploring many planets over the course of 30 hours of gameplay. 

Gamers can make progress towards the center of the galaxy faster if they find an in game item worth a lot of in game currency and then sell it to fund speed upgrades. It is possible that this is something Hello Games will patch.
