on

The Nintendo Wii U, the first console to launch this generation, is in the twilight of its life. Nintendo is preparing to move on to potentially greener pastures. It’s already focusing a lot of its energy on the Nintendo NX and games designed specifically for it. Before the company moves on, it has another trick up its sleeve. The The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild release arrives next year to the Wii U and the Nintendo NX.

Nintendo began talking about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild back in 2015. Since then, it has started to fill in some details, provide visuals and give potential players a feel for how The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is different from previous games in the long-running series.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Release Window

Nintendo hasn’t changed its plans for a dual launch, the game will still come to the Wii U and Nintendo NX in 2017. It has also said that the game will launch on both platforms at the same time. The Nintendo NX is expected in March of 2017, pretty much giving Nintendo a huge window to release Breath of the Wild. Originally, Nintendo said that it would launch the game in 2015.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Story

100 years before Link wakes up in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild a dark and dangerous force was sealed with Hyrule Castle because it couldn’t be beaten. Now that force is threatening to break free and ultimately destroy the world unless Link can stop it.

Through the game, players will learn all about that enemy, Calamity Ganon, and ultimately learn how to stop it.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Release: What’s New

Full of puzzle solving and brisk combat, the Zelda series is as big a deal with Nintendo fans the world over as Halo and Uncharted are to fans of their home platforms. The Legends of Zelda: Breath of the Wild features Link, but has some major upgrades, two of which Nintendo has already talked about publicly.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild developer Nintendo EPD is trying to get at the basics of what a Zelda game is all about. The studio is refreshing the series’ puzzle mechanics and combat for example. It’s also using new techniques and tricks to make the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild better looking than any previous game in the series. Nintendo has confirmed that the game will support Amiibo figures.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Release: Trailer

We know that the game is better looking than other games in the series thanks to a new trailer that Nintendo showcased during its Treehouse Live event during the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Developers used shading techniques to lend the game better visuals.

The new trailer shows how Link interacts with that better looking, open world. He can avoid enemies by climbing trees and take out other unsuspecting enemies with natural hazards, like a giant boulder. Everything in the world is a weapon for Link, including a stick, Nintendo says. There’s crafting and hunting.

The video opens with the camera gliding along a lush, green landscape. Next, there’s a character on horseback. The camera switches again and we’re treated to a panoramic view of coast line that has palm trees blowing in the wind. As the clouds pass, sunlight reflects off the green pastures below.

This world has birds and bucks, water fowl and weather. A voice repeatedly asks Link to open his eyes. A storm blows in and Link awakens.

Before you know it, Link has jumped off a cliff, and glided high above a grove. It seems that he was the character on horseback riding earlier in the trailer. He sneaks through grass and mounts another unsuspecting animal.

The trailer focuses a lot on how players can climb landmarks. There’s a taste of ingenuity in the trailer too. We see Link cut down a tree to use as a bridge over an enormously large chasm. He swims, shoots arrows and sits fires too. Players can get to the game’s different dungeons however they choose.

All told, the trailer provides the most detailed look at The Legends of Zelda: Breath of the Wild we’ve seen from Nintendo yet. At the very least, it lends credence to Nintendo’s claims of this being the biggest, most vibrant game world it has ever created internally.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Release: Wii U and Nintendo NX Compatibility

Since last year, Nintendo has maintained a refreshing stance on news about the Nintendo NX. When there’s something to share that might impact a buyer’s purchasing decision, the company shares that information. It’s the reason we know that the Nintendo NX is coming to store shelves next year. It’s how we knew that The Legend of Zelda would be a huge part of the company’s E3 2016 plans. It’s also how we knew the Nintendo NX will get a version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild even though we haven’t actually seen the console yet.

The New Weapons in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

We already knew that the weapons carried in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild could break apart with excessive use. Now Nintendo is showcasing some of the those powerful but fragile pieces of hardware. A video posted to the company’s Twitter profile showcases a new sword and battle-hardened axe among other things. The highlight of the video is a wand-like device that’s able to fling fireballs.

GameStop is already offering The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild pre-orders. Other retailers will kick-off their own pre-orders for the game closer to release.

That is just so damn stupid. For the first time ever I don’t want a Zelda game at all…if I had know what I was getting into with Skyward Sword this would be the second because that game was a wreck from all angles. The story was just not right with it but I enjoyed it but the controls made that game crap…but this…I don’t need a crappy elder scrolls game I need a wonderful Zelda game. Yea I said I hate elder scrolls games. I have my opinions and this is them so if you are gonna bash them use facts not random hatful trolling…sigh I can’t believe they want to mess up Zelda so much…next they will turn Link into a female in a canon story. I don’t have a problem with a female link but it would not feel like a Zelda game that way either…interesting thought and I agree Nintendo’s “reasons” are not really up to snuff but I mean I just prefer not to have what is not broken being “fixed”. Keep to the great style of Zelda.

I have never been so excited for a LoZ game!!! I’ve played the Zelda series since I was two yrs old sitting in my moms lap being taught how to play, and I whole-heartedly believe this game will be the best of the series
