Published

on

Skyrim Special Edition problems are plaguing gamers but help has arrived. Bethesda’s released a new Skyrim Special Edition update that delivers some key bug fixes to the PC, Xbox One and PS4.

In late October, Bethesda released its Skyrim remaster on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC. Skyrim Special Edition features improved graphics and it also brings Skyrim mods to the console for the first time.

The game is an excellent take on a classic but it’s far from perfect. Skyrim Special Edition problems are plaguing Xbox One, PS4 and PC owners as we push away from the game’s release date.

Skyrim Special Edition owners are complaining about an assortment of problems including performance issues, quest bugs, issues with various NPCs, problems with the game’s sound, and more.

While there are manual fixes out there, some of these Skyrim Special Edition problems will require fixes from the developer.

Fortunately, Bethesda’s released the first major Skyrim Special Edition patch and it’s available right now for all three platforms.

With that in mind, we want to take a look at everything you need to know right now about the Skyrim Special Edition 1.1 update for PC, Xbox One and PS4.

We’ll continue to update this roundup with new details so check back for regular updates.

Skyrim Special Edition 1.1 Update Now Available

If you’re playing Skyrim Special Edition on PC, Xbox One or PlayStation 4, you might encounter the 1.1 update the next time you fire up your game. It’s out on all three platforms right now.

If you’re running out of space on your console’s hard drive, now would be a good time to do some fall cleaning.

To confirm that you have the Skyrim Special Edition 1.1 update on board, pause your game and head to the System tab. In the lower-left corner, you should see 1.1 or 1.1.45 on Xbox One.

Bethesda also notes that “Skyrim Special Edition Creation Kit users should also update to 1.1.” You can update by logging into the Bethesda.net Launcher.

This is what you can expect from future Skyrim Special Edition updates. Bethesda will release an early version for PC users ahead of an official release for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

It’s similar to what the company did with its Fallout 4 updates and we expect the company to follow this protocol with future Skyrim Special Edition updates.

Bug Fixes

Bethesda’s Skyrim Special Edition 1.1 patch doesn’t come with any new features. Instead, it’s focused on fixing some of the game’s issues.

The first major Skyrim update comes with Bethesda’s vague and well-known “general performance and optimization improvements.” The Skyrim Special Edition 1.1 update also brings:

  • Fixed rare issue with NPCs not appearing in proper locations
  • Fixed issue with saves erroneously being marked as Modded, even though no mods are active
  • Updated some sound files to not use compression
  • Fixed an issue with interface elements not appearing correctly on certain displays (Xbox One and PS4)

Bethesda’s notes that the patch should fix NPCs for existing saves. Some users were worried about having to start the game over after the patch.

Skyrim Special Edition 1.1 Update Problems

Before you download the Skyrim Special Edition 1.1 update, note that 1.1 update problems are starting to pop up.

Early reports from Skyrim Special Edition 1.1 patch users include complaints issues loading up saves and FPS (frame rate) problems. Users are also noticing texturing issues, lingering issues with the game’s quests, additional problems with NPCs, and crashes.

A number of Xbox One, PS4 and PC owners are complaining about frequent crashes after installing the latest update. Bethesda is aware of the problems and the company’s confirmed a new 1.2 update with some additional bug fixes.

The Skyrim Special Edition 1.2 update is currently in beta for PC ahead of a wider release in the days ahead.

A Quality Map

A Quality Map

One of our favorite Skyrim mods for PC is now available for console.

A Quality World Map by IcePenguin is an essential mod for PC. And now that it's available for console, it's an essential mod for Xbox One. (It's not available for PS4 yet.)

Bethesda's vanilla Skyrim map is decent enough but this mod takes it to the next level with improved textures and detailed roads.

The developer has literally drawn out every single road in the game and needless to say, it's impressive. And useful.

For more info, take a look at the video below.

Trust us, this one is very, very good. Give it a try today.

“help is on the way” Bullcrap! Still waiting for Bethesda to deliver on the bare minimum bait-and-switch promises they made for Fallout 4. Studio seems full of lazy liars who just ignore problems until modders get around to fixing them for free; not to mention they’ve had so many years to get this remaster ‘correct’ yet even when releasing an old game all over again, the bugs people have been begging them to fix for five freaking years still remain.
