Dell XPS 15 - $999.99

Another steady hand in the pure-notebook area has been the Dell XPS line. This latest Dell XPS 15 is a ridiculously great notebook PC, even if it can get very, very pricy.

The outer skin of the Dell XPS 15 is made of aluminum, with the keyboard deck and sides consisting primarily of carbon fiber. The $999.99 model, the cheapest Dell XPS 15 that you can buy, includes an Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of RAM and Windows 10 Home. The hard drive inside this model has hybrid technology that balances 500GB of hard drive space with a 32GB Solid State Drive for boosting the machine’s performance at startup and app loading.

The low-end model doesn’t have touch or the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M with 2GB of RAM, you can add both though. There’s also an option to bump up the 15.6-inch Infinity Edge display to 4K resolution for the best video you’ll ever see.

All versions of the machine include a Thunderbolt port for fast media transfers and docking. Speaking of docking, with its battery companion, the Dell XPS 15 can keep running for an entire day’s worth of work. I’m not a big fan of the device’s trackpad or finicky add-on software, but it’s still a solid notebook for any kind of user. If you need something with a smaller screen, look into the Dell XPS 13, which is equally impressive and uses the same materials.
