5 Best iPhone 5S Rumors So Far

on

While most of the attention to rumored smartphones has so far been on the HTC M7 and the Samsung Galaxy S4, Apple’s rumored successor to the iPhone 5, presumably called the iPhone 5S, has seemingly leaked to the surface as well. In fact, we’ve heard a number of whispers about the iPhone 5S when it comes to its features, launch and release date. Here, we take a look at the best and most exciting iPhone 5S rumors we’ve heard about thus far.

In September, Apple launched its next-generation iPhone, the iPhone 5, after a year full of rumor and speculation. One of the first iPhone 5 rumors, which emerged in December of 2011 and suggested that Apple was working on a redesign with a launch in the fall, turned out to be dead on as Apple completely redesigned the iPhone from the iPhone 4S.

The iPhone 5S is rumored to be coming in 2013 to replace the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 5 features a larger 4-inch Retina display, up from the usual 3.5-inches, and it also sports a design that isn’t made of plastic with a glass back but of glass, metal and a anodized aluminum back that gives it a sleek industrial look. Furthermore, Apple also slimmed down the iPhone 5 as it checks in with a 7.6mm design and weighs a paltry 112 grams. That much lighter and thinner than any of its predecessors.

Apple also, for the first time, offered 4G LTE data speeds on the iPhone. 4G LTE data allows the device to obtain data speeds up to 10 times faster than standard 3G.

Needless to say, the new additions were a hit with customers and the device sold out and remained hard to find until December. It remains one of the best smartphone options available on the market today.

However, the iPhone 5’s success and relatively recent launch have not prevented rumors about its successor from emerging. In fact, the iPhone 5S as it is currently called, has surfaced in a number if different rumors in regards to its hardware, launch date, release date and more.

Some rumors of course are more exciting than others and we have sifted through all of the whispers about the iPhone 5S to bring you what we consider to be the five most exciting iPhone 5S rumors so far.

5 Best iPhone 5S Rumors So Far

Early Launch

The last two iPhones launched during the fall with the iPhone 4S arriving in October and the iPhone 5 emerging in September, a month earlier. And while that seemed to be the going trend, current iPhone 5S launch rumors suggest that Apple may be gearing up for an even earlier launch this time around.

Rumors and notes from analysts have suggested that Apple could launch the iPhone 5S as soon as May, possibly to do battle with the Samsung Galaxy S4 which is rumored to be hitting the U.S. in either May or June.

The iPhone 5S is rumored to be launching early in 2013.

Of course, a more likely launch month would be June, the month that Apple typically hosts its annual developer conference, WWDC. In the years before the iPhone 4S, Apple used WWDC as a launching pad not only for iOS but for the iPhone as well.

Thus far, just about every single sign points to an iPhone 5S launch in the summer. And given how early reports predicted the iPhone 5’s fall release, we have to think that there might be some truth here, or at least, it’s a time frame that Apple might be shooting for.

It’s also a rumor worth getting excited about as it could mean that a new iPhone arrives way ahead of schedule.

July Release Date

Apple tends to release its iPhone just a few weeks after announcing it and thus far, we’ve heard rumors of a possible release date taking place during the month of July if Apple does indeed launch the iPhone 5S in June.

Both iLounge and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has been extremely accurate in the past, say that a June or July release date is possible with iLounge suggesting July specifically as a target month for Apple.

That of course means that Apple could wind up changing its mind but at this point, given all of the summer launch rumors, it’s extremely hard to dismiss June and July as potential iPhone 5S release months.

It’s also hard not to be excited about a potential return to the iPhones summer release date.

IGZO Display

This year’s display technology is likely going to make the iPhone 5’s Retina display look ancient with its 1080p resolution and high pixel-per-inch counts. The Galaxy S4, the iPhone 5 and likely the iPhone 5S’ chief rival, is expected to have a display with full HD resolution, 400+ PPI and quite possibly, touch less control over the display.

These additions, if real, are going to be attractive to those looking for a new smartphone and they may provoke Apple into making some alterations to the iPhone 5S’ display.

Rumors at this point don’t suggest that Apple will be changing the size of the display, but one rumor from analyst Peter Misek suggests that Apple may finally adopt Sharp’s IGZO display technology, technology that we saw on display at CES 2013.

Sharp has long been rumored to be bringing its IGZO technology to both the iPhone and the iPad and if it indeed comes to the iPhone, it could help Apple’s iPhone 5S display better compete with the competition.

As we’ve discussed, it could help increase the pixel count and it could also, in theory, also offer iPhone 5S owners improved battery life. The Retina display is still good on the eyes but these two improvements could certainly make it much more attractive.

While it may not pan out, the possibility is exciting nonetheless.

Stellar Camera

One feature that Apple typically upgrades ever year is the iPhone’s rear camera. The iPhone 5’s 8MP iSight camera is one of the better rear cameras around and while it can still compete, smartphones of 2013 are likely going to be equipped with some big improvements.

We’ve already seen how the Sony Xperia Z’s 13MP sensor stacks up against the iPhone 5 camera and given the improvements these companies are making, the iPhone 5S should come equipped with a stellar camera.

Rumors back that claim up as the iPhone 5S has been suggested to have an upgraded camera, possibly a Sony sensor, that may wind up being the star of the iPhone 5S show.

Apple has delivered from a smartphone camera standpoint in the past and it should deliver again with the iPhone 5S. That’s certainly exciting, especially to those that take a lot of photos and video with their smartphone.

Similar Design to iPhone 5

Current iPhone 5S rumors suggest that Apple will be employing a design similar to the iPhone 5’s. If true, it wouldn’t be surprising. With the two other ‘S’ iPhone models, Apple has kept the design of the predecessor. Specifically, the iPhone 3GS design mirrored the iPhone 3GS’ and the iPhone 4S’ was the same as the iPhone 4’s.

The iPhone 5 sports a design comprised of metal, glass and aluminum.

For those interested in the iPhone 5S, this is a good thing. The iPhone 5 employs one of the best designs in the business with a slim and lightweight form factor. It’s not only easy on the eyes but it’s also a pleasure to hold in the hand, something that is a big concern to smartphone buyers.

So even though a big redesign hasn’t been rumored, we’re still excited to see what type of upgrades Apple bestows upon the iPhone 5S while keeping the iPhone 5’s fantastic design.

Seriously, does anyone give a crap about iPhone anymore? Super excitement over the very innovative Samsung Galaxy SIV, HO HUM over any iPhone and minimal change over the previous model except to have iSheep slather over it and wait in line for hours over nothing. Pretty comical

I’m waiting for this phone. I really hope apple doesn’t make this phone larger and I also prefer if they kept the square shape. If they make it an iPod shape, I won’t be able to tell if its a phone. Maybe if they made it thinner and add some new features but leave everything else, it would be perfect

When it comes out I bet the 5s will just get a camera, processor and maybe a flash storage upgrade at most. Apple is playing it too safe. When they do eventually start losing big to Samsung they’ll probably get in panic mode, and put actual real advancements on their iPhones, but it’ll be too late.

I see the 5S coming in June or July with 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB models, with multiple colors. I see the camera getting 12-14 MP with a much better zoom. The iPhone 4 will be discontinued, as well as the 32GB and 64GB iPhone 5’s. The 5S will not have a 16GB model. The 5S will also have an A7 processor with 2GB RAM. The iPhone 6, however, will be a more significant upgrade coming in late 2013 or 2014. iOS 7 will also be introduced with the iPhone 5S, likely, which will likely end support on all non-Siri devices.

I see the 5S coming with features that have already been done by other manufacturers last year. I see the press and media fawning over these “new “features and proclaiming the 5S as a great phone although other phones will outshine it by a mile. The iPhone 5S will be discounted because of slow sales, and a public that is tired of incremental upgrades instead of real advances in tech by Apple. By then the bottom will have dropped out for iPhone sales and the iPhone 6 will be overtaken by Android and BlackBerry sales. Check your crystal ball, Bob; it seems to be distorted.
