Those looking for a brand new smartphone in the month of April are going to be choosing between a number of excellent devices. However, the sheer amount of options will be overwhelming to some consumers and here, we want to help narrow things down by telling you about the devices we consider the five best smartphones for the month of April.

The start of the year was rather slow in terms of new smartphone releases. We saw the Sony Xperia Z1s emerge for T-Mobile and we saw the Nokia Lumia Icon arrive for Verizon but besides those, the smartphone landscape was dominated by the smartphones from 2013.

Last year’s crop yielded some of the best smartphones ever made. Early in the year we saw the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One arrive to do battle with the iPhone 5s. Later in the year we saw the LG G2, Galaxy Note 3, iPhone 5s, and Nexus 5 emerge from the shadows. And on the Windows side of things we got the Nokia Lumia 1520 and the Nokia Lumia 1020. Last year’s lineup was superb but it’s not getting any younger and many consumers are starting to look ahead.

While the year may have started off slow, we’ve now started to see companies put forth their flagships for 2014. In February and March alone, we saw two of the biggest names arrive in the forms of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8. The HTC One M8 is already on sale while the Galaxy S5 goes on sale next week.

This changing of the guard means that consumers now have new options to look at and it means that we’ve had to make some changes to our list of the best smartphones on the planet.

Picking a new smartphone can be a difficult task and the addition of these smartphones doesn’t make things any easier. Here, in an effort to help those who might need some help this month, we break down the devices we think are the five best smartphones for the month of April 2014.

Our list may differ from yours but these are the devices that Gotta Be Mobile editors have selected for recognition in April. We feel like they deliver the best, all-around package at the moment. Something else to keep in mind is that this list will change month-to-month as more devices get released.

iPhone 5s

iPhone 5s

Apple's iPhone 5s remains a top option and it will likely remain one of the best smartphone options available to consumers all the way up until the iPhone 6's arrival later on this year.

While the price of the iPhone 5s hasn't seen a significant drop since it was released back in September, it's still an attractive device that lives up to that $199.99 premium price point.

From its industrial design, to its Retina Display, to its camera, to its 64-bit processor, this is a device that is built to last for the long haul. It deserves to be near the top of smartphone shoppers lists for the month of April and beyond.

The Galaxy S4 and LG G2 doesnt make the list so how does the iphone 5s make it when, except for the processor, EVERYTHING else is outdated even when compared with phones from 2011?
