Improved Performance

If you've been following us on our journey with the iPhone 5 iOS 8 update, you'd know that we've seen a decline in performance. While iOS 7.1 was snappy on the iPhone 5, iOS 8 is a bit sluggish and slow.

iOS 8.4 is an improvement but animations and transitions can still be choppy at times and it's still not back to where it was in iOS 7. iOS 9 could change that.

Part of Apple's iOS 9 update is going to focus on improving performance on older devices. This is all thanks to Apple's Metal platform for developers. Apps that take advantage of Metal will make better "use of the CPU and GPU to deliver faster scrolling, smoother animation, and better overall performance." That's huge for older devices like the iPhone 5.

The company also says that things like "email, messages, web pages, and PDFs" will render faster. We're hoping that these optimizations and others will improve performance on our iPhone 5 and your iPhone 5 as well.

You shouls correct the portion about Metal, Mr Mills. Metal optimization is only for 64 bit devices (5s, 6, 6 plus, A7 and A8X ipads)

The older 32 bit devices don’t support metal. Iphone 5 is a 32 bit device running on an older A6 chip, which does not support metal.

IOS already allows for a pass code more than 4 digits. You have to turn off ‘simple passcode’ under pass code settings. It will then allow any complex alpha numeric or plain long numeric pass codes
