5 iOS 8 Jailbreak Tweaks We Want to See

With iOS 8 out in the wild and an official jailbreak to accompany it, users are starting to look forward to the many iOS 8 jailbreak tweaks that they’ll be able to install. Here are some tweaks that we want to see in iOS 8.

There will no doubt be the classics that will make their way to iOS 8, including F.lux, Winterboard themes, and even some of the newer tweaks that we saw with iOS 7 that took advantage of the iPhone 5s’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor. However, we’re looking forward to some new jailbreak tweaks that will take advantage of some of the new features in iOS 8, like the new Notification Center and improvements to iMessage.

Frankly, there were a lot of new and exciting iOS 7 jailbreaks tweaks that we saw over the last year, proving to us that developing for jailbroken devices hasn’t slowed down one bit. With that said, the iOS 8 jailbreak should be just as exciting.

Here are five iOS 8 jailbreak tweaks that we want to see.

Custom Notification Center Widgets

iOS 8 comes with a new Notification Center layout, which includes the ability to place widgets that gives you instant access to a variety of information. These include weather forecasts, sports scores, and more.

With an iOS 8 jailbreak tweak, though, the capabilities of widgets in Notification Center could grow. For instance, a jailbreak tweak could allow users to put in widgets for apps that don’t have official support yet, or we could see tweaks that are standalone widgets themselves that can provide information in the Notification Center that Apple wouldn’t allow otherwise, like battery health and CPU usage.

Added Capabilities to iMessage

iMessage in iOS 8 comes with the ability to quickly and instantly send photos, videos and audio messages to other iPhone users, making iMessage even more useful to use.

However, with iOS 8 jailbreak tweaks, we could see improvements to these features, including the possibility of quickly taking a series of photos and sending them to your recipient, rather than having the instant photo feature only send one photo at a time.

Of course, we’re not sure what we’ll see as far as jailbreak tweaks when it comes to iMessage, but we’re hopeful at the improvements that the iOS 8 jailbreak could bring.

Unofficial Third-Party NFC Support

Right now, the NFC chip that’s inside of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus is locked to Apple Pay only, meaning that users can use the NFC chip to pay for things wirelessly through Apple Pay, but that’s it. NFC has such a broader use than that (just look at Android).

We would be surprised if we didn’t see a handful of iOS 8 jailbreak tweaks that unlocked the power of the iPhone 6’s NFC chip, allowing users to take advantage of the device’s NFC like it was meant to be, from using NFC tags to automate stuff to bumping phones together and quickly sending photos to nearby friends.

NFC was a technology that has been rumored on the iPhone for years and now it’s finally here. Of course, it’s possible that Apple could unlock the NFC chip to third-party developers, but that might not be anytime soon. In the meantime, an iOS 8 jailbreak would let us break into it earlier.

An iCloud Drive File Explorer App

iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite come with a new feature called iCloud Drive, which is essentially Apple’s equivalent to Dropbox and Google Drive. However, while OS X Yosemite has an iCloud Drive folder where you can drag and drop various files in and out of, where’s the equivalent app for iOS?

It turns out, there isn’t one, which kind of negates the point of having iCloud Drive in the first place, since you can’t actually use it as a “drive” on iOS.

However, there used to be an app called iCloud Drive Explorer that allowed you to browse files in your iCloud Drive folder on your iOS device, similar to Dropbox and Google Drive, but Apple quickly pulled it from the App Store.

Of course, Apple could release a standalone iCloud Drive app for iOS devices in the future, because we like to say, “Never say never,” but the chances of that actually happening are extremely low. That’s why we wouldn’t be surprised to see this sort of app get released in Cydia shortly.

Enable “Hey Siri” At Any Time

iOS 8’s new feature for Siri allows users to say “Hey Siri” to bring up the virtual assistant without needing to even touch your iPhone or iPad. However, in order for this feature to work, your device has to be plugged into a power source, which sort of ruins that whole feature.

We wouldn’t be surprised at all to see a small and quick iOS 8 jailbreak tweak released that allowed users to say “Hey Siri” at any time, whether the iPhone or iPad is plugged in or not.
