iPhone 5 Owners Might Be Able to Cut Micro SIM to Nano SIM
With a little patience and some work, it appears that iPhone 5 owners may be able to trim a Micro SIM down enough to potentially fit inside the iPhone 5’s Nano Sim slot.
One of the biggest questions leading up to the release of the iPhone 5 on September 21st is whether or not iPhone 5 owners will be able to trim down a Micro SIM card to fit into the iPhone 5’s new Nano Sim card slot.
With the iPhone 4S, owners have been able to trim down a Sim card to fit into the iPhone 5’s Micro SIM card slot which allows the device to work on carriers like T-Mobile. T-Mobile’s network is currently home to over a million users who use their iPhone like this.

However, with the introduction of a new Nano SIM card slot on the iPhone 5, many wondered whether they would have to buy one of T-Mobile’s upcoming Nano Sim cards in order to be able to use an iPhone 5 on T-Mobile.
That may not be the case as CNET Asia is reporting that it may be possible to trim down a Micro SIM card to fit into the iPhone 5’s new Nano Sim slot. The site was able to slim down a Micro SIM to 0.70mm which may be a size that the iPhone 5 Nano SIM tray permits which means that it might be possible to trim down the Micro SIM to fit inside the iPhone 5.
All it will take it seems is a bit of sanding and possibly, some gagging due to the horrid smell that comes with the dust that is omitted.

Problem is, the iPhone 5 isn’t out yet so it’s impossible to say whether this is going to work or not. The slimmed down Micro SIM card did still function inside of the HTC One X which is a good sign. So, while there is a possibility of this working, nothing is confirmed yet.
Of course, those looking to grab the iPhone 5 on T-Mobile may just want to wait until October, the month that the carrier is rumored to be releasing Nano SIM cards for iPhone 5 owners to use.
These cards will allow owners to run the iPhone 5 on T-Mobile’s network.
