First Fallout 4 Update: New Details Emerge
Bethesda’s first Fallout 4 update continues to make progress in beta and several new details have emerged thanks to a brand new release for PC users.
Fallout 4 problems are still frustrating PS4, Xbox One and PC users but Bethesda’s cooking up a remedy that could arrive any day now.
In November, the company confirmed plans to release its first Fallout 4 update for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The company detailed its release path saying that it would arrive in beta form for PC users before heading out to the public. So far, Bethesda’s stuck to the plan.
Late last month, the company released the first Fallout 4 beta update for PC. The first update arrived with a number of fixes and improvements. It also included two new features including a way to remap the number pad keys.
The developer still hasn’t confirmed a specific release date for PC, Xbox One or PS4 but the release date is inching closer.
Bethesda’s released a new Fallout 4 beta update that brings some new fixes to those participating in the beta process. The change log of the new Fallout 4 1.2.37 update features three changes. Those changes include:
- General memory and stability improvements
- Performance improvements inside the Corvega Assembly Plant
- Fixed issue with player becoming stuck in terminals
This second Fallout 4 update is only available to PC users and only to those who have agreed to participate in the beta process. Bethesda recommends making a backup save just in case something happens. We recommend making several. To get the latest Fallout 4 update beta on your PC, follow these instructions:
1. Log into Steam
2. Right Click on Fallout 4 in your Library
3. Select Settings
4. Select Betas
5. A drop down menu will appear. Select Beta Update
6. Select OK
7. Wait a few minutes and Fallout 4 should update
8. When done, Fallout 4 should appear as Fallout 4 [beta] in your Library
If you decide you no longer want to participate in the Fallout 4 update beta, you can opt out. To opt out of the beta, you’ll need to repeat steps one through four and then at the drop down select NONE. This will get you out of the beta program.
While this update is aimed at fixing problems, it appears that it has some problems of its own. Fallout 4 beta testers are reporting several issues with the latest update including problems with NPCS.
One user says that “I’m also still experiencing many NPCs that move around the game world getting stuck in walking into walls/chairs/tables etc. Very offputting and really breaks immersion.”
There are also complaints about broken higher level enemies. This is a lingering bug in the game that gamers are calling on Bethesda to fix.
While this update will certainly improve the game’s performance, there’s also a good chance that it will bring some Fallout 4 problems of its own.
Bethesda has said that it will be releasing smaller but more frequent updates to combat this. That way, it will allow the developer “to make sure each fix is working right, as any change can have unintentional side effects in a game this huge.”
In the meantime, Fallout 4 players experiencing issues are encouraged to look at our list of manual fixes for Fallout 4 problems.
