A Portable Thumb-Board For Your Mobile Device

Mention mobile devices with or without a keyboard or thumb-board and you’ll generate some discussion one way or the other these days. What some like others detest and vice-versa. I’m a big fan of the OQO Model 02 solution and I’m not all that enamored of the split keyboard on the Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC. But hey, that’s just me.

Freedom has released the Freedom Mini Duo Bluetooth Keyboard which looks like it might be of interest to some. (I’ll say up front it doesn’t look appealing to me, but again, hey, that’s just me.) The Mini Duo folds up and is supposedly slightly larger than a credit card and can operate in either SPP (Serial Port Profile) or HID (Human Interface Device) mode. It connects via BlueTooth so it boast wide compatibility and the specs say it will operate for 9 hours our continuous typing (I’d like to see someone use a thumb-board for 9 hours continuously.) It runs approximately $100 US.

If I sound a bit skeptical it is only because I am. While I’m sure this will come in handy for some UMPC or other mobile device users, if I’m going to pull out a device for keyed enter of any type, I’m going to opt for something that is a full keyboard, like the Stowaway BlueTooth Keyboard.
