All Hope is Lost in New Batman: Arkham Knight Trailer

It was just yesterday that developer Rocksteady Studios was discussing how it’d set out to tell a great story in Batman: Arkham Knight and ended up with a story so powerful it earned an M for Mature rating. Today, Rocksteady and Warner Brothers are giving gamers a brief taste of that story with a new Batman: Akrham Knight trailer.

The new Batman: Akrham Knight trailer appeared early this morning on YouTube. Titled, “Gotham is Mine,” this new Batman: Arkham Knight trailer is a two-minute long look at all the odds Batman faces as he tries to once again save Gotham City from complete destruction.

Batman Arkham Knight

Early in the Batman Arkham Knight trailer we get short flashes of all the villains set to appear in the game. First there’s Harley Quinn, girlfriend of the Joker and certified insane person. She’s taunted the Batman in every single entry in the franchise thus far. Two Face, the Riddler, Scare Crow and the Arkham Knight are all shown. So is Poison Ivy, who informs Batman that all of Gotham’s bad guys are teaming up to “take him out.”

The Scare Crow can be heard, telling the roving band of criminals left in Gotham City to continue looting and robbery with his protection. It’s at this point that we get our first look at Penguin, another of Batman’s long-time foes. The Scare Crow then threatens Gotham’s remaining police force, declaring that they “won’t be spared.”

What follows next is plenty of high-octane action. We see the new player controlled Batmobile hurtling through the streets of Gotham City taking down as many bad guys as possible. Footage also shows players racing through the streets of Gotham trying to stop a moving car with rockets. Next we see Batman brutally knocking out enemies, a possible hint that Rocksteady isn’t introducing a lot of changes to the free flow combat system that won the series crucial acclaim. As Batman pulls up to another group of bad guys we see him launch out of the Batmobile. Rocksteady has already confirmed that the Batmobile will feature heavily in the game’s combat system.

All told, the trailer, which lasts two and a half minutes, effectively builds hype for what should be this summer’s must-have video game. At the very least the new Batman: Arkham Knight trailer should grab the attention of any gamers who weren’t satisfied by Arkham Origins, the last big game in the franchise.

Batman: Arkham Knight will once again let gamers take control of Batman. Yesterday Rocksteady revealed that this time, he’ll be at his peak performance, and that’s why so many bad guys are teaming up to stop him. Beyond the Batmobile, it’s unclear what gadgets he’ll have at his disposal, we can clearly see he’s gotten a suit upgrade in this trailer too.

Originally, Rocksteady had plans to launch Batman: Arkham Knight on the Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PCs last fall. It would have acted as a giant carrot meant to convince gamers to purchase a new console since it won’t be available on the Xbox 360 and PS4. Clearly, that didn’t happen and the Batman: Arkham Knight release date is set for June 2nd in the United States.

Batman: Akrham Knight will sell for $59.99 in its basic version. A $199 version of the game will include extras like a Batmobile statue that transforms on command and exclusive DLC that won’t come with the basic version. $99 gets users the special digital content and case without the statue. Challenge maps and special playable characters will be available for anyone who pre-orders. Those who pre-order will also get a playable Red Hood character.
