Out August 25th, Gears of War Ultimate Edition is in a way, everything that has defined Microsoft’s Xbox One console thus far.
The original Gears of War was a multiplayer juggernaut. Microsoft is hoping that the Xbox One will have strong multiplayer too. That’s why the company has invested in cloud servers that allow companies to beef up their gameplay. The Gears of War Ultimate Edition release marks the first time Microsoft has used its new backwards compatibility technology to lure users into a new entry in the franchise. The Gears of War Ultimate Edition release is bait for the Gears of War 4 Beta happening soon. Microsoft hopes that backwards compatibility and Gears of War 4 will help sales of the Xbox One pass sales of Sony’s PS4.
Here are some last-minute Gears of War Ultimate Edition release day details to get you through the launch of the game, and what most consider the official start of the fall gaming season.
Gears of War Ultimate Edition: What It Is & Isn’t
Gears of War Ultimate Edition started out as a simple remake to mark the anniversary of the Gears of War franchise.
Originally made by independent studio Epic Games, Gears of War let players become Marcus Fenix, a solider trying to save humanity from an alien species bent on destroying humans. The Locus Horde, as they’re called, are invading from below and seem like an unstoppable force. Typically, shooters of this type are played in the first person, but Gears of War had a third-person camera perspective. Microsoft’s studios remastered the entire Gears of War single-player campaign and multiplayer experience for Gears of War Ultimate Edition.
Gears of War Ultimate Edition release date buyers thought that they were getting just the first-game. At E3 2015, Microsoft revealed that it’d use the Gears of War Ultimate Edition release to showcase a new feature on the Xbox One: backwards compatibility. When users purchase Gears of War Ultimate Edition on disc or in the Xbox Store they unlock digital downloads of Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3 and Gears of War Judgement to use with the Xbox 360 emulator.
With Gears of War Ultimate Edition, Microsoft is giving users access to the Gears of War 4 Beta. Exactly when that beta kicks off is unclear.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition: Should You Buy
Already, the Gears of War Ultimate Edition impressions are flowing in from outlets who have early copies of the game. Most seem impressed by the updated graphics. What we’re still waiting on are details on how the multiplayer player systems are performing.
