The update to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for the HTC One is a hot topic lately, and yesterday we learned it would hopefully arrive for AT&T users at some point this afternoon. The end of September promise by HTC was missed by a few days but we can now confirm the update is rolling out to users right this moment.
HTC finally got everything in order and last week confirmed it was coming, and now today we’re starting to see the update arrive for multiple users on AT&T. This news was just confirmed by HTC USA President Jason Mackenzie on Twitter. where he goes on to mention the AT&T software update page should also reflect the latest changes. This means that users might want to start checking for updates right about now.
The update to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for the HTC One on AT&T this fast is a good sign that they’ll be improving the speed of device updates, which has been troubling for the company in the past. The question remains on how long devices will continue to receive updates, which is also something HTC has been heavily criticized on with previous devices.
HTC confirmed the update to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for the HTC One would arrive for AT&T and Sprint both sometime by mid-October, and this is right on time, as Sprint recently received it too. The Verizon HTC One, which arrived with Android 4.2 out of the box, will also be receiving a rather quick update. HTC promises Verizon will get the same update by the end of October, which is exciting considering they’ve been one of the slowest carriers to approve updates.
If all the comments and screenshots coming out of the popular smartphone forum XDA Developers wasn’t enough proof, the image above should remove any doubt that the update is indeed rolling out this afternoon. Android 4.3 brings with it Sense UI 5.0 and appears to be a rather large update at 565MB in size.
With no word on when Android 4.4 KitKat will arrive, save for a few rumors, this update to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean will have to hold most users over. As a quick tip users will want to check for updates under the AT&T Software Update option in settings, not the usual Settings > About Phone > Check for updates menu.
