Android 4.4 KitKat Revealed in Leaked Screenshots

With the rumored announcement and release date of Android 4.4 KitKat just hours away, which is tomorrow the 15th, we’re still getting leak after leak with more details. This morning we saw another set of Nexus 5 images, and now a full gallery of screenshots is reportedly giving us a deep look at Android 4.4 KitKat on the Nexus 7.

Thanks to a gallery of images from ZDNet that are reportedly Android 4.4 KitKat or “Key Lime Pie” we’re getting our best look of the new software on an Android tablet. These leaks could be old version of Android from test devices, so we have no idea what Google will actually do until they show it off themselves. However, most of these leaks all have a similar theme, only this time we’re getting a deep look at the software.

Above is the most interesting image we’ve seen yet. For those that don’t know if you head into settings > about phone (or tablet) and tap 4 times on the “Android version” option you’ll get a hidden Easter egg screen showing the version of Android. That’s what ZDNet claims we see above, but there’s no version number added. Below is how it usually looks on something like the Nexus 7, so we’re not exactly sure what we’re looking at here. Is it Android 4.4 KitKat, or Key Lime Pie? We want to know Google.

All leaks still til this day have shown Android as Key Lime Pie, but as we all know Google officially announced it as KitKat last month. For now this is likely just the old internal name they used to hide the deal with Nestle. That aside, there’s plenty more to see in the leaked screenshots provided by ZDNet.

From here the leakster gives us a better look at the application tray full of icons, which are mostly the same save for a few Google apps. So far we’re not seeing a lot of changes here aside from the icons and white text up top. We’re not sure if this is a recent build of Android 4.4 KitKat, or an older test build that managed to leak to the public. Here’s how it looks with Android 4.3 on the left and the new 4.4 on the right.

Google redesigned the settings icon, added a Voice Search icon, and a few others have been changed to round icons. One thing worth noting is both Android 4.4 leaks on the Nexus 5 smartphone had a transparent app tray, but here it’s back to the Android 4.3 black background. So this could be a leak of an old and outdated version of Android 4.4 KitKat.

The rest of the screenshots provided by ZDNet show the Cloud Print option, Tap & pay NFC payment solutions options, a new clock/stopwatch and even the rumored Google Experience Launcher that will take over your home screen. There’s a lot to look at here, but hopefully it will all become official tomorrow, as rumors suggest.
