Angry Birds Space Hits Milestone, Windows Phone App MIA

After launching just a little over a month ago, Angry Birds Space has taken the mobile gaming space by storm amassing over 100 million downloads since its release.

In a post on Twitter, Angry Birds developer Rovio confirmed the big news saying that the latest edition of its popular game had hit the 100 million download mark.

The game is currently available on Apple’s iOS platform as well as on Google’s Android and RIM’s BlackBerry operating system as well.

Unfortunately, the game is still not yet available for folks using Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform. Originally, Rovio said that it would not be developing Angry Birds for Windows Phone.

However, soon after, Rovio’s CEO confirmed that Angry Birds Space for Windows Phone was indeed in the works but that it had no time table for the game’s release.

Shortly after that, Nokia and Rovio announced that Angry Birds Space would be hitting Nokia’s Lumia Windows Phone devices in the not-so-distant future.

It will also be coming to other Windows Phone smartphones which means it should be a full-fledged launch on the Windows Phone platform.

Neither company specified when the game would be coming out.

Angry Birds Space is the latest rendition of the Angry Birds game and it puts the birds into, yup, space.

This adds a whole new element to the game, gravity, that has very obviously resonated very nicely with fans of the franchise. After all, it’s not easy to get 100 million downloads.

Kudos to Rovio for the milestone, now let’s see an Angry Birds for Windows Phone app.
