Apparatus may sound like an odd name for an app, but once you start building and solving physics based puzzles you’ll understand why Bithack bestowed the name Apparatus on this app. The puzzle solving fun is free in the Amazon App Store today only, a drop of $1.50 on amazon and $2 cheaper than on the Android Market. Apparatus will work on your phone as well as on Android tablets — with a full screen layout that brings the game to life.
Apparatus tasks you with moving a ball into a basket, but like all things you are asked to do, this isn’t as simple as it sounds. Each level delivers a collection of tools and parts which you need to use to create ramps, levers, springboards and other contraptions to move your ball into the basket. As you progress through Apparatus you gain access to levels that require more thought to pull together an apparatus made of string, motors, vehicles and more. If you need help be sure to watch the tutorial at the beginning of each level for tips.
If you aren’t satisfied with solving the built-in puzzles, open up sandbox mode to create your own levels and creations or browse the creations of other players.
Rube Goldberg Would Be Proud
Use the hammer or wrench to connect wooden planks, wheels, and other objects. Connect cables from batteries to motors, build bridges, set up teeter-totters, swing with ropes, build vehicles, or just give the marble a convoluted, Rube Goldberg-style roller coaster ride.
Want to create a fabulously complex mechanism for moving the marble a few inches? Or maybe you’d rather make a sleek, efficient structure that allows your marble to travel a long way in as few steps as possible. It’s all up to you.
Once you’ve constructed a machine, just touch the “play” button at the top of the screen. This will get the ball rolling, and you’ll see how your creation stands up to the test of physics: if it’s not stable, or the marble’s progress gets obstructed at some point, you’ll know immediately that your machine needs more work.
You can get Apparatus for free in the Amazon App Store. if you haven’t used the Amazon App Store before you will need to install the App Store on your phone, which takes just a minute. Amazon offers a free app everyday, so it is well worth signing up for the Amazon App Store.
