Apple announced the iPad mini 2 today and a $30 price drop for the original iPad mini. The iPad mini price drop is live on Apple now and reflected in Apple Stores as well.
Apple Customer Support tells Gotta Be Mobile that users who recently purchased an iPad mini from Apple can call customer service to get a credit for the $30 iPad mini price drop.
This is not out of the ordinary, but it is also not something that Apple mentioned on stage. This applies to users who purchased the iPad mini from Apple.com or an Apple Store, while users who bought from a retailer will need to contact them for a refund.
Apple offers a 14-day return period and it appears this is the amount of time users have to get the price drop credited to them, though if you purchased within the last 30 days it may be worth calling just to check. $30 is enough to buy a nice case or a lot of new iPad mini apps.
The Apple Customer Support team provides the following information,
“To get this taken care of, you are able to contact customer service to get a retroactive credit for the new pricing.
The number for Customer Service and Sales Support is 1-800-676-2775.”
Users can expect a slight wait time to get service today as the call center appears to be very busy, so it may be worth holding off for a few hours until things calm down.
The iPad mini is now $299 for WiFi model with 16GB of storage, which is the only level of storage offered. The iPad mini with LTE is available on T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T and Verizon with 16GB of storage for $429, a price drop from yesterday. Users can likely get this refunded as well. Support was not certain if users who bought a higher capacity iPad mini were able to get a refund of $30.
Third party retailers like Best Buy still list the iPad mini price as $329 for the base model, so users who ordered from these places may need to wait a day or so before asking for a refund.
