Apple refreshes the Macbook Pro… mostly

Published

No earth-shaking news here: Apple refreshed their Macbook Pro line with a quiet store announcement today. The 15- and 17-inch models look good for the desktop replacement crowd, but folks interested in the more portable 13-inch MBP seem to be getting the short end of the stick.

Both the 15- and 17-inch models are getting upgraded to the new Intel Core processors with a selection of Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs. 15, i5, 17, i7. Seems logical that the 13-inch would get a Core i3 option, but it’s stuck with Core 2 Duo instead. Faster ones but still the old designs.

On the plus side, it gets a graphics boost (though still integrated), and the 63.5 Whr battery is supposed to last up to 10 hours. Normally I’d assume that’s really up to 8 hours actual, but I recall we got burned the last time we doubted a 10-hour battery claim from Apple. Still, even if its actual run-time is 8 hours, that’ll cover most people’s day.
