Apple Rehires Newton Tablet Developer

Published

on

Interesting. Amidst all of the Apple Tablet rumors, Apple potentially poured more fuel on that fire by rehiring Michael Tchao, one of the original developers of the Newton. Tchao’s new position will be as a Vice President of product marketing. Of course speculation is rampant that he’s been brought on to help market the Apple Tablet. Apparently Tchao was the one who convinced John Sculley to bring the Newton to market. Tchao had been working as general manager of Nike TechLab, the company that developed the accessories that integrated the iPod with Nike products.

Nike seems to be a recurring theme in the tablet world. I just finished watching the latest MS Courier video demonstration, built around someone working on a new shoe design and the Nike Swoosh is prominently displayed. Then I read this article. Is there such a thing as coincidence??

I love how this is playing out. Apple is overdue for launching a completely new product. Apple can squeeze out only so much growth by shipping updates to existing products.
